While we anxiously await the oddball awesomeness David O. Russell is cooking up with "American Hustle," let's take a victory lap with "Silver Linings Playbook." The screwball rom-com nabbed 8 Oscar nominations resulting in a Best Actress win for Jennifer Lawrence, who shined among a uniformly excellent ensemble in the tale of one man's journey to find a happy medium between his mental illness and the troubles in his life. It's charming, winning stuff, and one extra moment that didn't make it to theaters is now available for you to enjoy at home.

So, we picked Jennifer Lawrence as our Woman Of The Year for 2012, and....toldja. If there was any doubt last fall, the actress secured her place as America's sweetheart Sunday night by being the awkward nerd we all wanted to be at the Oscars. From falling up the stairs to get her Best Actress award, to totally freaking the fuck out when Jack Nicholson smoothly hits on her backstage and handling the idiotic questions from the press corps with aplomb, it seems there's one more way for Lawrence to endear herselves to us.

Missed the 85th Academy Awards last night for some reason? Not into it? Just sort of put off by Seth MacFarlane's perennially self-satisfied and smug smirk? Perhaps you watched, but went to bed during the 6th hour when you knew there were still 45 nominations to go? We can't fault you either way, but in case you happened to miss the show -- the full list of winners is here -- or just got sick of how longwinded and or overly musical it was, you can watch the entire thing on Hulu. Hell, we won't even spoil it for you in case you missed it, but if you did, we warn you, it was long, erratically paced (slow and then hurried and then slow again) and the jokes were funny and then they weren't. Inconsistency was the name of the game.

The 2013 Oscar season finally came to an end with the 85th Academy Awards. The major prizes of the night went to "Argo," which, as expected, won Best Picture, Ang Lee took Best Director, while Christoph Waltz, Anne Hathaway, Daniel Day-Lewis and Jennifer Lawrence won the acting prizes.

Well, that's a wrap. The two bigger winners of the night were "Argo," which one the coveted Best Picture award and three awards total, and "Life of Pi," which took home the most statuettes of the evening including Best Director for Ang Lee (which we called in our predictions). The one relative "surprise" of the night early on (though a late groundswell started in recent weeks) was Christoph Waltz for "Django Unchained," beating out Robert De Niro and Tommy Lee Jones. But the show was a brutally longwinded snore and the musical segments didn't help. Host Seth MacFarlane had mixed results, but fared better than we expected and had a few admittedly killer jokes. All and all though, pacing wise, it was a crushingly slow and laborious show. More analysis tomorrow, this thing tired us out.

We're less than a week away, and after Sunday night, Oscar talk will be over for another year. Well, until next fall anyway. But there is still plenty of time to honor the nominees, and among them is Jennifer Lawrence, who solidified in 2012 that she has certainly arrived. From her first Oscar nomination two years ago for "Winter's Bone," the actress has exploded with two franchises under her belt ("The Hunger Games," the new "X-Men" films), a new collaborator in "Silver Linings Playbook" director David O. Russell (she just signed on for his next movie) and a promising upcoming slate that includes Susanne Bier's drama "Serena." Too early for a tribute? That's up for debate, but she's already getting the career overview treatment.

Seven days left until the Oscars, and the final precursor awards roll out this weekend. Tonight sees the WGA Awards, and last night was the ACE Eddie Awards, run by the organization for film editors, and rewarding the best editing in cinema in 2012.

Behold, the power of Harvey Weinstein. While he's known for being a tough customer, the super producer -- like we've said time and time again -- is one of the best allies to have in your corner to promote your movie. And he's shown exactly why he's still the best in the game with "Silver Linings Playbook." After premiering the film at TIFF to enthusiastic reviews and winning the People's Choice Award in the process, many found it strange that he chose to platform the movie. Well, thirteen weeks and eight Oscar nominations later, he's laughing last as the movie makes its way toward $100 million domestic. And now comes the victory lap.

After months of speculation, argument, debate, prognostication and guesswork, it's hard to believe that the Oscars are just over a week away, and yet the final hurrah for the contenders continues. With the BAFTAs now done and dusted -- and Ben Affleck seemingly one inch closer to a complete “Argo” victory -- the Oscars are next in line to focus everyone's attention on the films of 2012. The Academy should be pretty confident that people will indeed tune in, but this year they've nevertheless opted for a unique promotional campaign, one sitting right in line with the Mondo poster aesthetic.
