At this point, Jason Statham is genre unto himself and can consistently pull in a steady, though small, audience to the low-budget genre fare he churns out annually. Earlier this year it was announced that Statham would be starring in a Brian DePalma-helmed and William Goldman-scripted remake of the forgotten 1986 Burt Reynolds vehicle “Heat.” Though the film is still moving forward, the legendary auteur has been swapped out for schlock-impresario Simon West.

While a definitive release date has yet to be locked down, a poster and a collection of stills has debuted for the new Nicolas Cage thriller "Stolen" (formerly "Medallion," which made it sound like a negligible Jackie Chan movie), with the appropriately Nic Cage-y tagline: "12 hours. $10 million. 1 kidnapped daughter." We're not sure about the math, but we're certainly excited about the movie!

Chuck Norris & Jean-Claude Van Damme Confirmed, Are Michael Biehn And Michael Pare In The Mix Too?"The Expendables" having proven successful enough in its collection of elderly ass-kickers to get a sequel green-lit, it was clear that creator/writer/star Sylvester Stallone would have to raise his game for the second go-round. First of all, with not all the stars returning (it looks like Jet Li won't be back, for one), it would help to draft in a few more action icons to help make up the numbers. And secondly, with the first film being somewhat subpar, and the less than amazing Simon West ("Con Air," "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider") replacing Stallone in the director's chair, it'd need something special to get all but the least discerning action fans excited about a sequel.

If you were to draw up a list of the ten worst directors currently working in Hollywood, you'd have to save space for Simon West, who came out swinging with the botched delirium of sub-Bay actioner "Con Air" and has only gone downhill from there. West's films are cacophonous noise tunnels where the human spirit is unwelcome, where cynicism and craven stupidity triumph over creativity and ingenuity. Each one of his films has either a ripe premise, a great cast, or a too-big budget, only to be squandered by his narrow vision and neanderthal caveman storytelling. Yet somehow, Sylvester Stallone, who normally has an ear for his dyed-in-the-wool fans on the internet, has picked Simon West to helm "The Expendables 2."

Audiences seem to be cooling on wig-wearing, "I'll-do-anything-just-send-me-a-script" Nicolas Cage. His medieval flick "Season Of The Witch" opened at number three, and over the weekend, "Drive Angry 3D" arrived with an empty tank opening way down the list at number nine. But Cage, for whatever it's worth, is still a name that gets lower-budgeted action fare moving and certainly dinosaur bones and castles don't pay for themselves. Just before the end of the year, Cage signed on to the thriller "Medallion," and things are still moving forward on the project despite his dodgy box office prospects these days.

There's Also Going To Be A 'Conan 2'One project that fell apart, breaking geek hearts in the process, was Robert Rodriguez's "Red Sonja." With Rose McGowan in the lead, the project made it through concept art phases but never went beyond, and eventually both Rodriguez and McGowan moved on to other things. But the project is still alive and kicking, and in a recent conversation with Empire, producer Avi Lerner dropped some news on who will be directing the film and who he'd like to step into the red-haired role.
