As another summer comes to a close, we can look back at all the fare this mega blockbuster season has brought us while finishing off with a few more popcorn flicks. Nothing so big as “The Expendables 2,” mind you, but still plenty of big name stars and CGI to look forward to this weekend. So with Labor Day just around the corner, take some time to bask in the last rays of August sun as you bike along the Hudson River or drive across the country in your convertible. Or, for those who’ve had enough UV rays for this year, board yourself up in a haunted house with a zombie or two. There’s plenty of fun to be had in this last summer go-round.

Yes, everything that follows is true, our narrator assures us from the start after asking everyone to go ahead and turn off their cell phones. The validity of it all has been questioned before, and he simply wants to cut our skepticism off at the pass. However, since this is Mike Birbiglia playing a version of himself (named in the film as “Matt Pandamiglio”), replicating stories of his own life in a film based on his one-man show and identically titled book, "Sleepwalk With Me," there remains an inevitable degree of distance between seeing Matt go through the travails of becoming a stand-up comedian and a suitable boyfriend, and laughing at Mike’s actual experiences. Don’t worry: it’s a bit less through-the-looking-glass than it reads on paper.

A little bit meta, melancholy and yes, funny, "Sleepwalk With Me" has been building a quiet storm of buzz ever since it premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, and earned more praise in Texas at SXSW. And arriving at the end of the summer, it will serve as a nice way to wash out the glut of tentpole fare clogging your brain.
