"Smashed," a comedy-drama starring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and Aaron Paul that won the US Dramatic Special Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival (kind of a big deal), still doesn't have a trailer, even though it's being released by Sony Pictures Classics on October 12th. What it does have is a new clip, released by the studio's Twitter account, featuring Mary Elizabeth Winstead and one of the funniest men on planet earth, Nick Offerman.

Can James Ponsoldt's "Smashed" turn Park City buzz into awards season gold? Sony Pictures Classics certainly hopes so, and as they get set to unveil the film this fall, they've dropped a brand new batch of pics from the film.

It would seem that for extra/actor Ted Cross, his love of Mary Elizabeth Winstead has superseded his commitment to the non-disclosure agreement he signed. Either that, or someone didn't tell him this was probably meant as a surprise. But the cat is out of the bag, and while the actress herself, when asked last fall, didn't think she would reprising her role as John McClane's daughter in "A Good Day To Die Hard," well, it looks like she's making a cameo appearance of some kind.

After the disappointing box office performance of last year's Sundance crop -- films like "Take Shelter," "Like Crazy" and "Martha Marcy May Marlene" all failed to live up to expectations, with none making more than $4 million -- it's unsurprising that buyers have been a little less trigger happy this time around. There have been plenty of major sales -- most notably Fox Searchlight's pick ups of "The Surrogate" and "Beasts of The Southern Wild" -- but over a week after the fest wrapped up, a number of major titles remain in play. For instance, most had pegged the starry, foul-mouthed comedy "Bachelorette" as the most likely pick up, especially in a post-"Bridesmaids" climate, but the film is yet to find a home.

Every year, Sundance provides a massive career boost to a handful of people. Sometimes it's a total newcomer -- think of Carey Mulligan, or Elizabeth Olsen in recent years -- who suddenly find themselves on every casting wishlist around.

There is a sub-canon of films about alcohol as deep and as dark as a barrel of bourbon, from "Lost Weekend" to "Days of Wine and Roses" to "Trees Lounge." "Smashed," premiering at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, casts Aaron Paul and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Charlie and Kate, a married couple in L.A. whose love is strong, full and, more to the point, well-saturated. Charlie and Kate like to drink, and it shows; Kate's mortified to have a hung-over vomiting fit while teaching, apologizing to her 1st graders and answering, falsely, yes when her kids ask if she's pregnant. When Kate is busted by her vice-Principal Mr. Davies (Nick Offerman, in a performance that in a just world would be an Oscar contender), she confesses her lies and he simply notes "That's … not good."

Geez, just when you think you have a handle on this year's awards race, the Sundance Film Festival has dropped their first wave of titles headed to Park City in January, and this is the start of the Oscar journey for many movies. This year alone saw Brit Marling break out with "Another Earth" and "Sound of My Voice," Felicity Jones impress with "Like Crazy," Elizabeth Olsen earn Oscar talk with "Martha Marcy May Marlene" and other movies of note unspooling, including "Being Elmo," "Margin Call," "Circumstance," "Our Idiot Brother," "The Interrupters," "Undefeated" and more.

'Breaking Bad' Star Aaron Paul, 'The Help' Breakout Actress Octavia Spencer & Nick Offerman Also On BoardSince Mary Elizabeth Winstead is done battling awful CGI-rendered aliens in "The Thing" prequel, and "Breaking Bad" star Aaron Paul and Nick Offerman aka Ron Swanson from "Parks & Recreation" have a break from their shows' respective seasons, it would appear as if it's time to shoot a feature.
