"Tron: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski's "Oblivion" has nearly landed, but the early word is out on the Tom Cruise starring sci-fi action flick. Our review is somewhere in the middle, not quite wholly taken with the effort, but certainly impressed by the spectacle on display. And perhaps one reason to buy a ticket besides the top notch special effects work, is a chance to hear M83 in surround sound.

One of the most intriguing projects of the year has to be the Jessica Chastain and James McAvoy-anchored two-parter “The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: His/Hers.” Although details are relatively scarce on the double feature, we at least now know who will be scoring the dissolution of Chastain and McAvoy’s marriage.

Well, here's something nice. In an era where the music landscape is unpredictable at best, and soundtracks are increasingly pushed to digital-only release, the tunes for Michel Gondry's upcoming "Mood Indigo" are getting a nice spread on two discs. Not too shabby.

While the Marvel mega merchandising and marketing machine has left no stone unturned, the soundtracks for their film have always been pretty random affairs. Last year's collection of tunes for "The Avengers" was hilariously out of touch with lots of meathead music, while the AC/DC powered tuneage for "Iron Man 2" was particularly uninspired. But it seems that for "Iron Man 3," the comic studio has hired some people who know a thing or two about what the kids want to hear and have pulled together a halfway respectable line up.

The Company You Keep, Robert Redford
There are few composers working today who are as exciting as Cliff Martinez. And while he's been at it for over two decades, it's the past few years that have really seen him establishing his own unique corner in the industry. With electronically tinged work that can be throbbing, propulsive, alienating, captivating and more, he's earned the attention of filmmakers as wide ranging as Steven Soderbergh (a frequent collaborator), Nicolas Winding Refn and Harmony Korine (he powers up the helmer's debauchery odyssey "Spring Breakers"). But his latest effort is for one of cinema's most enduring icons: Robert Redford.

The past two years has seen two high-profile baseball-themed movies: one good, 2011’s “Moneyball,” and the other less-than-good, last year’s Clint Eastwood-starring “Trouble With The Curve.” While the latter film was a disappointment for the studio, Warner Brothers is hoping they’ll hit a homerun (see what we did there?) with the Jackie Robinson biopic “42.” Scheduled for release next month, the details of the film’s soundtrack album have been released and, as one would expect from a period film, it’s filled with popular tunes from the era.

While the plans for a sequel are something we're certainly wary of, there's no doubt that Ridley Scott's "Blade Runner" continues to fascinate. Recently, studio notes on the film from displeased producers hit the web, providing yet another insight into the production, while a possible tie-in to "Prometheus" suggests the mythology may grown even further. But one of the most enduring elements of the sci-fi classic is Vangelis' beautifully synth-ed out score, and it's getting a fresh pressing for all you wax enthusiasts.
