Having composed moody and effervescent scores for "Another Earth," "Lola Versus," Ry Russo-Young's "You Won't Miss Me" and "Nobody Walks," and Keanu Reeves' upcoming indie "Generation Um…" Brooklyn-based electronic band Fall On Your Sword are quickly becoming the go-to outfit for indie film composing.

Making "The Hobbit" movies is expensive stuff (estimates put each installment between $200-300 million...damn...), which means the marketing and sales opportunities for this are going to be "interesting." Hell, we've already seen Air New Zealand and Denny's doing their best to pimp the brand. And when it comes to getting money out of the superfans, Peter Jackson and co. are finding ways to make completists buy stuff twice over.

For this writer, one of the underappreciated gems at this year's TIFF was undoubtedly Yaron Zilberman's feature debut "A Late Quartet." The finely tuned drama focuses on a world reknowned string quartet (Philip Seymour Hoffman, Catherine Keener, Christopher Walken and Mark Ivanir) about to enter their 25th season together. When their cellist (Walken) is struck with an illness that forces him to resign from the group, the delicate dynamic between the other members is thrown out of sync. As the remaining trio search for a potential replacement, trusts are betrayed, relationships damaged and marriages broken.

For anyone who has been through a break-up with someone but still remained best friends, "Celeste & Jesse Forever" will ring very true. The indie film starring Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg hit theaters this summer, but whatever the reasons may be, the soundtrack only officially landed last week. We're playing a bit of catch up here, but we're sure it's one you'll want to track down.

A wild night out needs to be accompanied by an appropriate soundtrack, and while the tunes compiled for "Fun Size" won't go down in history as one of the all time greats, it should turn some younger ears on to a least a few decent tracks.

If you're gonna do it, then do it right. That seems to be the driving force behind the decisions on the soundtrack for the upcoming surfing drama "Chasing Mavericks." Telling the true story of surfer Jay Moriarity who rode the waves and climbed to fame during the '90s, the tunes for the film are appropriately pulled from college radio, providing a pretty fierce flashback of sorts for anyone who came of age in the era of grunge and flannel.

Featuring a meta-narrative, big laughs, a bit of blood and lot of sharp edged one liners, "Seven Psychopaths" lands in theaters this weekend, bringing with it a huge cast to play along in the surreal world crafted by Martin McDonagh. Also reaching for your attention will be a soundtrack that takes a couple of hipster favorites, some classic tunes, and a score from a talented composer and shakes 'em up into a smooth cocktail.

From indie California punks to mainstream rock 'n rollers whose latest album is available at your nearest convenience store (seriously), Green Day have certainly come a long way in their career, which has spanned more than two decades. From grimy basement gigs to selling out arenas worldwide to even conquering the Broadway stage (with the "American Idiot" production), what can they possibly do next? How about providing the soundtrack to a long-running crime procedural on network television? Um, okay.
