Lakeshore Records will release the original soundtrack to the Weinstein Company comedy "Butter," starring Jennifer Garner, Ty Burrell, Olivia Wilde, Rob Corddry, Ashley Greene, Alicia Silverstone and Hugh Jackman, digitally on October 9th. The synopsis? When her husband (Ty Burrell) is unceremoniously asked to step down after taking first prize for fifteen years as the master Butter Carver at the Iowa State Fair, the limelight-seeking, ultra-competitive Laura Pickler (Garner) takes on a 12-year-old, African-American (Yara Shahidi) butter sculpting prodigy in a butter carving contest of epic proportions.

'Taken 2' Soundtrack Features Two Key Songs From 'Drive' & More

Listen, we know that songs are never just used once, and popular tunes can be utilized across any number of films. And if we're going to get technical about this whole thing, Kavinsky & Lovefoxx's "Nightcall" actually featured on "The Lincoln Lawyer" soundtrack before it became massive with "Drive" (though music supervisor Eric Craig worked on both films). But it's undeniable that Nicolas Winding Refn's film was one of the big soundtrack stories of 2011, spawning a "Drive" tour with the bands this spring, and a vinyl reissue of the album this summer, so this move by whoever is working on "Taken 2" feels a bit lazy.

While the trailer for "Killing Them Softly" may feature Johnny Cash, the movie itself goes for a different musical angle all together. Andrew Dominik's searing and scathing film takes a select batch of tunes ranging from pop standards to rock 'n' roll classics and uses them distinctly, powerfully and usually ironically to help spin his tale of a heist gone wrong in a crumbling America.

With "The Master" now open in limited release and hitting more cities in the coming weeks, talk about what the film is (a raw portrait of the hunger and pain of finding meaning in one's life) and isn't (an expose on Scientology) will continue for Paul Thomas Anderson's latest film. And one of those talking points will also be the excellent soundtrack, which, in addition to Jonny Greenwood's avant score, also features a very good helping of big band and jazz/pop standards. And while the official soundtrack release is mostly centered on the composer's works, we've got our hands on the full list of tunes in the movie.

After the cinematic wasteland that was August, September is shaping up to be much better, especially with Rian Johnson’s “Looper” arriving at the end of the month. The sci-fi film was one of our highest recommended films to see this month -- second only to Paul Thomas Anderson’s “The Master” -- and we have a whole bunch of new stills from the film along with the soundtrack details.

As serious-minded cinephiles who couldn't be persuaded to sit through an episode of "Glee" if the lives of their loved ones were at stake, there is absolutely no way that we kind of secretly want to see "Pitch Perfect." No, sir. Not us. We certainly weren't pleasantly surprised by a trailer that seems to have a little more spark and wit than the average teen movie, and featured what seems to be a killer comic performance by "Bridesmaids" star Rebel Wilson. And there's definitely no way that we'd pay to see the ludicrously talented Anna Kendrick read from the lengthy instruction booklet for a Blu-ray player (although, curiously we did draw the line at "What To Expect When You're Expecting."

If it's one thing we love, it's a great Richard Gere performance. After mistakenly labeling 2002 "The Year of Gere" (due to three fine performances in "The Mothman Prophecies," "Unfaithful," and "Chicago"), it looks like this year might actually live up to our really stupid title. Gere stars in "Arbitrage," where he plays a troubled hedge fund magnate, in a performance many are calling a career-best. And soundtrack details have just emerged for the soundtrack companion album, which features the original score by "Drive"/"Contagion" composer Cliff Martinez and a handful of previously released songs from the likes of Bjork, You Say Party!, Stan Getz, Billie Holiday and Robi Botos.

Amidst all the hoity-toity awards fare and sober dramas this fall, RZA will storm theaters with his directorial debut "The Man With The Iron Fists." The film, which looks to be a wickedly over the top martial arts flick delivered the way only a member of the Wu-Tang Clan knows how, will unsurprisingly feature a heavy duty soundtrack to go with it.
