Every year (at least in the last few), it seems there's at least one actress who, while already on many radars, comes to Sundance with a performance that launches her to true stardom. Carey Mulligan, Felicity Jones, Jennifer Lawrence, Elizabeth Olsen, Mia Wasikowska and Quvenzhane Wallis all went to Park City as complete or relative unknowns, and left at the top of casting wish-lists. This year, perhaps the most notable Sundance starlet to break out was Kaya Scodelario.

Thanks to the jaw-droppingly good “Martha Marcy May Marlene,” Sean Durkin has established himself as one of the most promising directors around. We’re going to be all kinds of excited about any project he announces, and on his slate at the moment is the Janis Joplin biopic “Janis” (presumably not starring Jenna Maroney) and the four-part TV drama “Southcliffe” for British network Channel 4. The latter is penned by “Red Riding” scribe Tony Grisoni, and it looks like Durkin is starting to assemble a strong British cast for the project.

After making a big splash last year with his unnerving indie "Marth Marcy May Marlene," director Sean Durkin is beginning to line up an impressive slate of projects. While reports that he was going to tackle a TV remake of "The Exorcist" ultimately seem to be erroneous (and highly denounced by William Friedkin), he since nabbed the gig helming the long-developing Janis Joplin biopic "Janis." But he isn't done with the small screen, and will tackle a show that will take him across the pond.

@ThePlaylist Oddly enough, I just considered doing that when it sounded like someone was dying outside.

@ThePlaylist Actually "frequent" is probably the wrong word. I probably only frequent 7 places on this map.
