America's greatest pastime hasn't been in great shape lately. Plagued by drug scandals and general disenchantment with the sport that pays astronomical prices for out-of-shape guys to hit a ball four hundred feet or so, it seems the magic of the ol' ballgame seems to have dissipated. This writer once religiously followed the sport, could rattle off batting lineups, bullpen rosters and second string second basemen at a moment's notice. But of late, we haven't had much reason to pay attention other than casually stopping in on games while flipping through channels. And while "Moneyball" won't get us picking up the daily sports section again, Bennett Miller's enjoyable and rousing film is a tribute to that the game's journeymen. The guys who aren't mega-watt stars, but who hustle day in and day out for years, all for the love of the game.

Ok, they're neither of them drastically different, and one is almost exactly the same, but two trailers have arrived for two films we're greatly anticipating, from two different markets.

America's greatest pastime may exist in an aura of nostalgia about warm summer evenings at the ball park, with a hot dog, the smell of fresh grass and that unique sound of a ball hitting a bat. But the reality is that it's bloated game, with overpaid players who in turn force us to play inflated prices to even gain entry to theme parks they now call baseball diamonds. But in 2002, the Oakland Athletics bucked the trend you needed money in order to win.

Yeah, we know. Your eyeballs are likely hurting, and so are ours, but this is the last batch -- for now -- of peeks of films that are headed to TIFF. But c'mon, this beats new looks at Optimus Prime or whatever right?

We're not sure what the wisdom is of a studio releasing any major marketing material if they're not at Comic-Con -- they're bound to get ignored -- but that said, those who will be buying tickets for "Moneyball" probably don't care about whatever is happening in San Diego anyway.

It's been a while since we've heard much on "Moneyball" and given the history behind it, it's a minor miracle it's even arriving at all. So a bit of recap, shall we?

Not every movie can star Robert Downey Jr or Johnny Depp; the most in-demand talents only have a certain amount of time, and sometimes you just have to go with a Channing Tatum or Jonathan Rhys-Meyers. And the same thing is true across all aspects of film production; Roger Deakins can't lens every film, for instance, and Hans Zimmer can't score everything, opening things up for those who, for whatever reason, have never quite gotten the acclaim of those above them in the hierarchy. For instance, take Mychael Danna.
