St. Vincent
Let’s start out with “St. Vincent” a bittersweet indie comedy that stars the elusive Bill Murray. Murray is notoriously hard to cast, because he’s hard to track down; he has no agent and he basically has a lawyer who you drop things off to like scripts, letters, desperate pleas, etc. and when Murray is good and ready he takes a look through some of it. And sometimes, if you’re lucky, the material or request will appeal to the actor and he’ll reach out (the actor infamously even ghosted on James L. Brooks after tentatively agreeing to star in “How Do You Know” in 2010 and then when unable to reach him, Brooks just went and cast Jack Nicholson as a favor).

While there has been a lot of insider debate this year about the Toronto International Film Festival's new rule regarding world premieres and how it will affect their lineup (or not), Toronto will definitely have one thing the rest of the fall festivals won't: Bill Murray Day.

St. Vincent
It's just two weeks to go until the Toronto International Film Festival, and organizers are putting the final touches on the lineup. Sorry, still no sign of Terrence Malick.

St. Vincent
In 1998, Bill Murray came bursting back to everyone's attention in "Rushmore," and it's easy to forget that at the time, his most recent previous credits included "Wild Things" and "Space Jam." But Wes Anderson's film showed he had a lot more to offer as an actor. And from there, a new era in his career began, which brings us to "St. Vincent," which almost feels like a weird, "Little Miss Sunshine"-esque glossy redo of Murray's still indelible Herman Blume.

Last week saw the latest Weinstein Company-backed biopic “Grace of Monaco” formally drop out of this year’s Oscar race with Harvey Weinstein citing the film’s incompletion for the delay, saying it “just wasn’t finished, the sound, anything.” While Weinstein promised a full-court press for the Nicole Kidman-led film when it was released, we’re not sure the film’s new date bodes well for the biopic.

After earning a second Oscar nomination for her tortured performance in “The Impossible,” and having recently finished production on her portrayal of Princess Diana (“Diana”), Naomi Watts could certainly use a change of pace from such heavy-handed material. In fact, looking at her filmography from the past few years, you’ll be hard-pressed to find many comedies in the bunch. There’s Woody Allen’s “You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger” and of course her riotous turn in David O. Russell's "I Heart Huckabees." Now she's adding another laffer to the bunch. And we don't see how anyone could pass up the opportunity to star alongside Bill Murray, Chris O’Dowd and Melissa McCarthy...

It's been a pretty good week for Chris O'Dowd, and it's capping off nicely. The first trailer for his HBO series "Family Tree" dropped, his indie flick "The Sapphires" starts rolling into theaters (our review) and it looks like he's gearing up to work with Bill Murray on another effort that's quickly building up a soild cast.

Rex Reed and critics be damned, because audiences are loving Melissa McCarthy. “Identity Thief,” her first major leading role following her Oscar-nominated breakout success in “Bridesmaids,” is massive hit, already earning over $115 million and counting. And it’s probably a safe bet that her summer comedy “The Heat,” with Sandra Bullock, will generate as many bucks if not even more. So what's potentially next on her slate? How about a movie with Bill Murray?

Bill Murray doesn’t go to work for just anyone. As he advances in years he’s been more and more picky with the roles he chooses, and the only films you can pretty much guarantee that he’ll appear in are those that have Wes Anderson seated in the director’s chair. However, he does currently have two interesting non-Anderson projects on the horizon. The first is “Hyde Park on Hudson” in which he’ll play the 32nd President FDR alongside Laura Linney and Olivia Williams. The second is frequent Anderson collaborator Roman Coppola’s “A Glimpse Inside the Mind of Charles Swan III” with Jason Schwartzman, Mary Elizabeth Winstead and, of course, Charlie Sheen.
