Today, believe it or not, is the four year anniversary since the theatrical release of J.J. Abrams’ “Star Trek.” Time sure does move fast unless, of course, you’re a Trekkie. A brand new clip from “Star Trek Into Darkness” has just been posted online and while it’s hardly any consolation for such a long wait, you know you want to check it out anyway. Besides, the movie’s release is only a few days away. If you can wait four years, surely another couple of days couldn’t hurt… right?

Star Trek Into Darkness, JJ Abrams
Last week we asked about how you readers felt about movie trailers and whether or not they spoiled anything. One aspect we forgot to bring up was the existence of the EPK-style behind-the-scenes looks at movies that have arrived at a higher frequency during these past few years. Case in point, a seven-minute peek behind-the-scenes of the secretive “Star Trek Into Darkness” has landed online.

Star Trek Into Darkness, JJ Abrams
Traversing fanboy culture can be treacherous. Say the wrong the thing (or anything really) and it can be taken under a microscope of scrutiny, speculation and potentially ill will. Worry and concern are always something that trouble the culture when something leans in the wrong direction, and studios have generally come around to being wise to this, often offering the safe answer when the reality is up in the air. When it was announced that relentless multitasking filmmaker J.J. Abrams had ultimately decided to direct Disney's "Star Wars: Episode VII," fans rejoiced (though maybe some will rejoice less if they feel the same way our reviewer did about "Star Trek: Into Darkness"), although much of the audience -- including the "Star Trek" creative team writer/producers Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman, Damon Lindelof -- all wondered aloud what this meant for their franchise.

Star Trek: Into Darkness
Cast your mind back four years or so, to stardate early May 2009, and remember a time when J.J Abrams wasn't yet the anointed savior of Hollywood. He had an ever-growing fanbase, and had already been behind at least one bona-fide small screen pop culture phenomenon. But his influence on the big-screen up to that point only extended to a few screenwriting credits, mostly forgotten, a producing credit on disposable sleeper hit "Cloverfield," and directing "Mission: Impossible III," an enjoyable, but somewhat interchangeable entry to the Tom Cruise spy franchise.

Reviews are starting to roll in from overseas, and the verdict so far on J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek Into Darkness"? Well, it's a success. Sure, there are quibbles here and there but by and large, if you're looking for a good popcorn flick that will appeal both to die hard Trekkers or the average guy looking for a Chris Pine sci-fi action movie, this one delivers. So all Paramount can do at this point is make sure as may people as possible see it.

Star Trek: Into Darkness
These days, it's all about the international dollars, so it's no surprise that some of this year's biggest blockbusters are getting a headstart overseas. "Iron Man 3" bowed a week before we get it on Friday, while "Star Trek Into Darkness" is also getting a jump abroad before the rest of us see it. While some early reviews from Australia dropped in about a week ago, 'Darkness' has now screened for folks in UK and a fresh batch of takes have arrived. The verdict? It's a rip-roaring blockbuster, that while not perfect (a common complaint is that characterization gets left behind as the adventure amps up) will be well worth your dollars. Here's what folks had to say:

Star Trek Into Darkness, Cumberbatch
Having raised the temperature a few degrees with a tease of a nefarious Benedict Cumberbatch and some pretty thrilling trailers, details are starting emerge about what to expect from the long under-wraps storyline of J.J. Abrams' hotly anticipated space epic “Star Trek: Into Darkness,” and a new clip that just premiered is almost exclusively centered around Cumberbatch's mysterious villain John Harrison.

The Playlist's Most Anticipated Blockbusters Of The 2013 Summer Season
Ah, summer. That time of year marked by long days, short skirts, and the application of sunscreen. It’s the season where even the most hardened cineaste can put aside their Criterion Collection discs, if only for a moment, and get excited about the jazzy, visual effects-driven blockbusters coming down the pike. The line between “summer” and “any other time of the year,” in terms of movies, keeps getting blurrier and blurrier, with big-budget studio fare like “Oz the Great and Powerful” and “Oblivion” coming out in the spring (we had a Michael Bay movie open in April, for crying out loud – before this it was questionable whether or not he even existed outside of June or July).

Star Trek Into Darkness, JJ Abrams
In the latest issue of Playboy Magazine, which people still totally buy for the articles, there's a lengthy interview with J.J. Abrams, cinematic wizard behind "Mission: Impossible III," "Super 8" and the "Star Trek" reboot. Abrams' second foray into the "Star Trek" cosmos, "Star Trek Into Darkness," opens on May 17th , while Abrams' next gig is even more daunting – directing the still-currently-subtitle-less "Star Wars: Episode VII" for Disney. The interview is full of juicy information – about 'Trek,' 'Wars,' the possibility of future Abrams sequels ("Cloverfield II" anyone?) – so much so that we just had to make a little crib sheet for the ten things we learned from the interview. Read on and prosper.
