Damon Lindelof Suggests He Could Be Involved In A Future 'Star Wars' Feature; Gives More Hints About 'Tomorrowland'

Nerds, start your hate-tweets: Damon Lindelof, one of the most celebrated and reviled writers in the geek universe, suggests in an interview with Grantland where he doesn't acknowledge or even try to explain the dozens of gaping plot holes and leaps in logic in "Star Trek Into Darkness" (which he co-wrote), that he will probably be involved in one of Disney's upcoming "Star Wars" projects (the crop that will begin with J.J. Abrams' 2015 film). In basements all across the country, angry blog posts are already being written. Lindelof also gave some more details about "Tomorrowland," his secretive Disney project with Brad Bird, which are pretty exciting for any fan of sci-fi.

Now "Star Trek Into Darkness" is in theaters (to somewhat underwhelming grosses), JJ Abrams attention will now move exclusively (well, excluding the dozens of projects in the works at his company Bad Robot -- read about those here) toward "Star Wars Episode VII," his much-anticipated renewal of the OTHER geek-beloved space franchise. And with the film due for release in the summer of 2015, we should start to hear about new casting for the series, beyond what we already know -- e.g. that original central trio of Mark Hamill, Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher are returning in some degree.

The Star Wars prequels weren’t exactly well-received by fans of the franchise, with many irked by a variety of plot points in those first three episodes. Well Jimmy Kimmel has a great idea for how J.J. Abrams can avoid that problem this time around – take ideas directly from the fans. Now we’d suggest that if he’s going to take fan ideas, Abrams should go look no further than one Patton Oswalt. But sadly with Patton not around, Kimmel instead pointed J.J. in the direction of his studio audience.

Mark Hamill will be in J.J. Abrams' “Star Wars: Episode VII,” that much we do know. Quite how much, or what Luke Skywalker will be doing when we meet him next is another thing entirely, but Hamill certainly seems excited about the prospect of returning to a galaxy far, far away. The actor was at the CapeTown Film Fest recently and got talking all things "Star Wars" -- from the original trilogy, to the prequels, to the upcoming trilogy.

Patton Oswalt may have captured the hearts of many a “Star Wars” fan with his dream outline for the series' onslaught of new entries -- starting in 2015 with “Star Wars: Episode VII” -- but Kathleen Kennedy likely chuckled and kept to her airtight plan. The Lucasfilm President has been endlessly prepping the much-anticipated sequels, and as the films finally start to become a reality, she's offered up some info on how we'll be hearing about them in the future.

A couple days ago, the internet was graced with a rather genius bit video via Patton Oswalt. While filming a guest spot on "Parks & Recreation," Oswalt turned what was supposed to be a simple scene of him filibustering a town hall meeting, into an 8-minute, breathless, totally dorky, pitch about what Disney should do with the "Star Wars" franchise. It starts along innocently enough, but soon Oswalt is talking about a Marvel crossover and it quickly devolves into geek-speak heaven.

Harrison Ford isn't an easy interview at the best of times. Prickly, distant and not one to suffer fools easily, an interview with Harrison Ford isn't so much a professional courtesy as a death match, where any journalist hopes to come out at least half alive. And undoubtedly, Ford will be pushed to the limit when it comes to "Star Wars," and his rumored involvement in J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode 7." So leave it to Jimmy Kimmel to brilliantly riff off Ford's persona, with the actor gamely playing along.
