If things stay the way they are now (which they probably won't), "Star Wars: Episode 7" will be directed by Matthew Vaughn with a script by Michael Ardnt (he completed a treatment for the trilogy, but he hasn't yet signed to write the screenplays). And while fans to continue to toss around dream names for who will sign on to direct the sequel, you can count three names out.

The studio has found an Oscar winner to pen the treatment and possibly the screenplay for the upcoming sequel, and nerds and indie-cinema heads alike will approve.

Given the hoopla arond Disney's announcement of a new trilogy of "Star Wars" films, it's no surprise that fans are digging into the vast archives of tidbits George Lucas and co. have given to press about the series over the past thirty-plus years. While Lucas himself has been cagey with the press -- both confirming and denying that there are more stories to tell in that universe over the years -- around the release of "Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi" in 1983, Mark Hamill was under the impression that there were going to be three trilogies.

Two days after it was announced, the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney and the revelation of a new trilogy of "Star Wars" films on the way continues spur discussion, excitement, speculation and more. We're still three years out from 'Episode VII' arriving in 2015, but given the amount of updates and tidbits pouring out over the past 48 hours, you would think it was coming next month. What we do know thus far is that, once again bucking fan expectations, Lucas has decided not to use the revered books, but is launching an original story, one that will reportedly feature Luke Skywalker, now in his 30s or 40s, in a tale that will follow "Stars Wars: Episode IV - Return Of The Jedi." And while a treatment is done, it appears that George Lucas was open to other ideas.

As you already know, yesterday came with it the monumental news that Disney had forked over $4 billion for Lucasfilm, and are launching a new "Star Wars" trilogy, with the first film slated to arrive in 2015. Of course, the internet nearly had a meltdown, and fans have been tossing around wishlists of directors (sorry guys, David Fincher will never come near this) and wondering aloud where the story will go next. In fact, we put together our own list of ways Disney may be approaching the next part of the saga, and also wondered if integrity can be restored to the franchise. Well, this is a step in the right direction.
