Mark Hamill will be in J.J. Abrams' “Star Wars: Episode VII,” that much we do know. Quite how much, or what Luke Skywalker will be doing when we meet him next is another thing entirely, but Hamill certainly seems excited about the prospect of returning to a galaxy far, far away. The actor was at the CapeTown Film Fest recently and got talking all things "Star Wars" -- from the original trilogy, to the prequels, to the upcoming trilogy.

Before Eli Roth was a very successful filmmaker and producer, he was a regular nerd like everyone else, and like the rest of the planet, he was in line in 1999 eagerly awaiting "Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace." And just like many, many fans of the longtime franchise, he was super bummed, angry and disappointed with what George Lucas delivered. And he let his feelings be known with the power of the pen (or rather, the keyboard).

You know how it was no fun to watch those “Star Wars” prequels; it sounds like they were no fun to make either. Well, that’s according to two of the actors who played minor roles in “Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace,” anyway. British comedian, actor and presenter Peter Serafinowicz provided the voice of Darth Maul in Lucas’ first prequel, while Terence Stamp took on the cameo role of Chancellor Valorum, and it sounds like they both had similarly disappointing experiences.

Just when you thought you'd amassed all the "Star Wars" merchandise, here’s yet another collector’s item to get excited about. Perhaps one of the more celebrated aspects of “Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace” is composer John Williams’ epic score. When the original release of the soundtrack first came out, it actually wound up being certified platinum in the U.S. and Gold in the U.K. Now, the original soundtrack is getting a limited edition release on vinyl.

It's easy to forget, but earlier this year, George Lucas, in his infinite wisdom, re-released cosmic disappointment "Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace" into theaters, this time converted to snazzy 3D. Because, you know, everyone wanted Jar Jar Binks up in their shit. While it didn't hang around in theaters for very long, this new version of 'Phantom Menace' did eek out a pretty healthy profit (almost $45 million), which doesn't come close to touching the haul that "The Lion King" made last year in a similar 3D run, it's still pretty damn good, especially because, at this point, it's just printing its own money. Well, Lucas will be returning to that well for the remainder of the prequel trilogy, with the official Lucas Twitter account announcing September and October 2013 releases for 3D versions of "Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones" and "Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith." Start charging your movie-quality lightsabers now.

Yesterday, Universal announced that they'd shifted their hopeful Tom Cruise blockbuster "Oblivion" into April, to make way for a prime, heart-of summer slot for a movie that will be twenty years old in 2013 -- a 3D re-jig of Steven Spielberg's "Jurassic Park," the one-time biggest hits of all time. And it's one of a wave of these stereo-ized re-releases, from last fall's surprise hit "The Lion King" and February's "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace" (with the sequels planned to hit over the next five years) to next month's "Titanic 3D."

It’s a crowded non-holiday weekend in February. Clearly, all these new releases should do somewhere in the vicinity of $10-$15 million, cannibalizing their own audiences, right? It’s early, but in a year of box office surprises, consider this weekend the most unlikely. With the final tallies to be announced on Monday, this will be the first non-holiday weekend to feature four $20 million+ debuts. And, surprisingly, none of them are costly flops.

You know those light sabres that are like double light sabres? That's probably the only cool thing we remember from the otherwise pretty bad "Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace," George Lucas' long-awaited space political drama prequel to his "Star Wars" trilogy. It made approximately five bajillion Saturn dollars, or whatever monetary system Scrooge McLucas uses to count his riches, and now it's coming back. IN 3D. So if you thought Jar Jar Binks was offensively annoying the first time around, you ain't seen nothing yet.
