With Harrison Ford temporarily out of action (the latest rumors are that while he recovers from the ankle injury he suffered on the set of "Episode VII," he could be filmed from the waist up, although that could also be because he's refusing to wear pants, a la Marlon Brando in "The Score"), it's undoubtedly going to be causing problems on the set of J.J. Abrams' new "Star Wars" movie. But in the meantime, Hollywood are already looking for a potential Harrison Ford replacement, because there's supposedly an Indiana Jones reboot in the offing, and a "Star Wars" spin-off focusing on Han Solo, and the 71-year-old Ford is almost certainly too old to star in either.

Gareth Edwards, Star Wars
Another day, another "Star Wars" rumor, but one that, if it turns out to be true, would throw an interesting twist into the developing details over the grand Disney plan over the next few years. At this point, we know that "Episode VII" is coming out at Christmas 2015, with at least "Episode VIII" and "Episode IX." to follow at some stage. We also know that "Godzilla" director Gareth Edwards is directing the first of the stand-alone spin-off movies, to be written by "The Book Of Eli"'s Gary Whitta, and scheduled for release in December 2016, and that "Chronicle" and "Fantastic Four" helmer Josh Trank will do another spin-off at some point after that.

We're about to hit an era of non-stop "Star Wars"—next year will bring J.J. Abrams' "Episode VII," with Gareth Edwards' spin-off a year later, and "Episode VIII" and "Episode IX" following, with the Josh Trank stand-alone picture coming down somewhere in between. But the new phase of "Star Wars" could have looked very different back in the days before Disney snapped up the rights to George Lucas' universe.

Josh Trank, Star Wars
We gotta say, we like Disney's gameplan here. With J.J. Abrams shepherding the mainline saga continuing "Star Wars: Episode 7," the studio is tapping rising young talent for their planned standalone spinoff films. "Godzilla" director Gareth Edwards will be doing the first one, due into cinemas in 2016, and now another exciting name has joined the franchise.

Gareth Edwards, Star Wars
The career of Gareth Edwards is one that would make a film school student envious. His first film, "Monsters," was a labor of love, made on a shoestring budget, with the VFX largely done a laptop. The result? A solid indie highlighting a director with a real sense of mood and craft. That effort found him leveraged into the blockbuster "Godzilla," and no matter what you thought of it, the movie was a huge smash, opening last weekend over $90 million at the box office. So what does Edwards do next? He's doing to Disneyland. Kinda.

The Walt Disney Company spent a small fortune when they bought LucasFilm for some $4.4 billion dollars in 2013. And so, a new “Star Wars” trilogy is not enough—you need to deliver some kind of “Star Wars” offshoot. The plan announced way back was a new trilogy film every other year and in those in-between years, some kind of “Star Wars” solo movies. And as you might expect, in the ensuing months, there’s been dozens of rumors and unconfirmed reports about the specifics of that gameplan.

When news emerged earlier this year that "Star Wars" spinoff movies were being eyed alongside the new trilogy, with Han Solo, Boba Fett and Yoda reportedly getting standalone films, there was definitely a spark of interest and potential, even from longtime fans who felt burned by the prequels. Maybe this would be the area where Disney and Lucasfilm would exercise some real creative freedom. How awesome would a dark, and gritty Han Solo movie be? What about a '70s vibe genre flick for Boba Fett? Well, keep dreaming because Disney has some pretty dull plans for these characters.

J.J. Abrams, 'Star Wars'
At a multiplex not so far away, in a galaxy you already live in, you are going be getting a whole lot more "Star Wars" very, very soon and on an annual basis. Just like filing your taxes and rotating your tires, the "Star Wars" franchise is going to become a yearly ritual.

“Star Wars” apologists are the worst. The excuses they make for the prequels are tenfold -- they’re made for children, you’re just too old now, and you’re looking at things through a nostalgic lens, so quit being melodramatic and get a life. True, the “Star Wars” prequels are not a travesty and they didn’t ruin any sensibly-adjusted adult’s life that grew up loving the original “Star Wars” trilogy as created by George Lucas. But they’re not good films either. Not by a long stretch. At best, they are an entertaining lark relatively semi-full of imagination. At worst, they mostly robbed “Star Wars” of its mystery, power and allure by explaining everything unequivocally (and we'll politely overlook the general execution of the films themselves).

Will, this is timely. Given the general slow drip of news and secrecy at the mouse house surrounding their upcoming "Star Wars" we had no idea that very literally moments after we had finished writing What The Stand-Alone 'Star Wars' Movies Mean For The Franchise & 5 Possibilities Of What They Could Be, well, we would kind of know what they will be.
