While it should be more than clear that "Oz the Great and Powerful" won't match the billion dollar haul of Disney's "Alice In Wonderland" – tears of sadness, Disney – still, this remains prime real estate for a family film as kids celebrate their spaced-out spring breaks. As such, 'Oz' has performed strongly on the weekdays, news that offsets the decent-but-unspectacular overseas returns. The film is on pace to rack up somewhere between $600-$800 million (probably the low end of that), which doesn't blow the doors off compared to a $300 million plus investment by the studio. But this is Disney we're talking about: there are ancillary earnings up the wazoo here.

Making the leap from TV comic to big-screen star has always been a tricky route -- one flop can put you right back to square one, and conversely, the temptation to take every project that comes your way, risking over-exposing yourself, seems to be a common one. There's no denying that Steve Carell's had some missteps since breaking out of "The Daily Show" and "Anchorman" -- "Evan Almighty," "Get Smart," "Dinner for Schmucks" -- but crucially, most of his films, even the less well-received pictures, have performed relatively well at the box office, and he's now a bona-fide A-lister.

Getting your script picked up in Hollywood can be both a blessing and a curse. You can see your vision realized as it should be on the big screen or you can see it ripped apart, rewritten, retooled, dumped, re-acquired and re-imagined until it barely resembles the thing you first wrote. For Black List approved Jonathan Herman, he's seeing his work get a makeover.

Well, she's funny, beautiful and a name that seems to be everywhere these days. So it's not exactly a big shock that Olivia Wilde beat out Michelle Monaghan, Judy Greer (our pick), Sarah Silverman (who was the final contender) and Jessica Biel for the female lead in upcoming magician comedy "Burt Wonderstone." But there's another great and unforgettable face joining as well.

Carell's 'Imagine' With Al Pacino Put Into Turnaround At Warner Bros.Up until now, the on screen pairings between Steve Carell and Jim Carrey have been fairly limited. Of course, Carell featured in "Bruce Almighty" where he was the unfortunate victim of Carrey's God-powered tomfoolery (and of course, his character was spun off into "Evan Almighty" which the less said, the better). They also both took voice roles in the animated "Horton Hears a Who!" a couple years back and irony of ironies, Carrey made a (pretty lacklustre) cameo appearance on the season finale of "The Office" last spring, of course, by this point Carell had exited the show. But it now appears that the duo are both going to finally co-star together as Deadline reports that Carrey has taken a role in the long developing "Burt Wonderstone."

First, we just need to get something off our chest. It's an absolute crime that with his run on the "The Office" now over, six-time Emmy nominee Steve Carell didn't win one time for his fantastic turn as the Michael Scott. More than just a bumbling boss, Carell found real depth and heart in Michael Scott that allowed the character to flourish over seven seasons. Okay, mini rant over. Regardless of industry accolades, Carell has used his sitcom success to spread his wings as a dramatic actor in fare like "Dan In Real Life" and "Crazy Stupid Love," however, his greatest challenge as an actor will find him paired up with "Capote" and "Moneyball" director Bennett Miller for what is an ambitious project for them both.

Directing Duo Turned Down 'Bad Santa 2'While the third act plot twist to "Crazy Stupid Love" is hugely contrived and runs against the careful blend of comedy and drama that runs through everything before, the nicely crafted tone from directors Glenn Ficarra and John Requa, and the engaging performances from their ensemble cast led by Steve Carell, made it easy overlook some of the things that didn't work. And it seems the experience was a good one for the lead actor and the directors alike, as they are planning another film together, albeit one that Carell will produce but not star in.

Review: Chemistry Really Cooks In The Uneven, But Super Charming 'Crazy Stupid Love'

Precariously mixing elements of broad comedy, bittersweet heartache, charming romance and soulful, surprisingly mature dramatic moments, "Crazy, Stupid, Love" is an endearing and winning summer comedic drama. It succeeds in spite of some messy plotting, dicey adulteration of tones, and too convenient and ridiculous sequences that threaten to unravel a well-made, mostly well-written picture about love and marital discord.

There is probably no comic leading man in Hollywood right now hotter than Steve Carell. It seems each week there is another project announced with the actor/comedian attached and this week is no different.
