Well, this is an interesting bit of casting. With Steve Carell busier than ever with "The Office" now in the rearview mirror, the comic actor has had to shed one of the many projects he's been linked to in the past few months. Dude has to eat and sleep sometime. Stepping away as an actor, but remaining on board as producer, Carell has rounded up a truly inspired choice for the other lead role in the dramedy "Imagine."

This business moves fast. We'd barely finished hitting 'publish' on a post about "Community" star Gillian Jacobs joining the Steve Carell/Keira Knightley comedy-drama "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World," and our inbox pinged with a press release from Focus Features, who recently acquired the film. As it turns out, Jacobs wasn't the only actor to come on board the film recently.

Most comedians, once they're anointed stars, use their newfound fame to sign on to seemingly dozens of projects, reaching a kind of overexposure in speedy time. After the success of "The 40 Year Old Virgin," it seemed as though Steve Carell was heading that way, with the likes of "Evan Almighty" and "Get Smart," roles that could have been filled by any comic star, clogging up his big screen appearances. But to his credit, now that he's freeing up his schedule by departing "The Office" last week, he's taking on more interesting roles -- the excellent-looking comedy "Crazy, Stupid, Love" lands this summer, and he's got more dramatic projects like "Great Hope Springs," opposite Meryl Streep and Tommy Lee Jones, and the oddity "Dogs of Babel" on his slate alongside more straightforward fare like "Burt Wonderstone."

It may have suffered somewhat in recent seasons from a dip in form, especially compared to the superior nature of most of the rest of the NBC comedy line-up -- "Community," "Parks and Recreation" and "30 Rock" -- but for the most part, we've immensely enjoyed the last seven seasons of "The Office." While it may not be as near-flawless as the BBC series on which it was based, it's remained remarkably consistent across over ten times the length, thanks to a star-making performance from lead Steve Carell, and one of the deepest, richest comedic ensembles around, one that's helped to launch names like John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer and Ed Helms, as well as some still on the up, like Mindy Kaling, Rainn Wilson and Ellie Kemper.

It's got to be hard for a director to walk away from a feature-directing gig. If you're lucky, you get to make a film once every couple of years, and, while some helmers are able to boost their income with rewrite work or commercials, or TV and music videos gigs, sometimes that one feature is your only income. But at the same time, you only get to make a certain number of movies in a career, and if the stars aren't aligning correctly, sometimes the only thing you can do is pack your bags. It's not an uncommon occurence -- Guillermo Del Toro leaving "The Hobbit" and Darren Aronofsky bailing on "The Wolverine" being two recent examples -- and it's just happened on another pair of A-lister-led projects.

As most movies -- and sometimes real life -- will tell you, love is all about timing. Those infinitesimal choices we make that lead us to running into someone we'll spend the rest of our life or just one night. And sometimes, the timing is just off. You're got a job in another city, or they're graduating and moving back home. Cupid can be a total asshole sometimes, but even he wouldn't be this cruel.

The 1990s saw Tommy Lee Jones suddenly become one of the more unlikely A-listers out there. His Oscar-winning antagonist in "The Fugitive" placed the actor firmly in demand in big budget projects such as "Men in Black," "Volcano" and "Batman Forever," as well as a series of not-particularly good procedural programmers like "Double Jeopardy," "Rules of Engagement" and "The Hunted." But the humiliation of 2005's cheerleader comedy "Man of the House," which would be a nadir of anyone's career, let alone someone with fine work stretching back 40-odd years, seemed to change things.

Here's a project that has been knocking around a while. "Burt Wonderstone" first landed on the radar when Jim Carrey eyed it very briefly last summer, and was soon followed by Steve Carell who became attached last fall. And that was pretty much the last we heard of it, but now there is fresh movement on the project.

With his run on "The Office" set to end soon, Steve Carell will be looking to fill up his calendar with movie roles. He's been linked to numerous projects over the past year -- too many to recount here -- but it looks like he's lining up one that will pair him with one of the great screen actresses of all time.
