The domestic trailer for "Shame" has arrived, and if you're a keen follower of this film, you'll realize this trailer is pretty much identical to the the U.K. version you've already seen. But the point is spreading the word for a controversial sexual drama that's been stamped with the dreaded NC-17 tag (though some are already posting this could work in the film's favor and calling it a "badge of honor").

That was fast, although not unexpected. After excellent reviews out of Venice and Telluride (see our Lido review here), Fox Seachlight has picked up the North American domestic rights to "Shame," the follow-up, sophomore directorial effort by British artist-turned-director Steve McQueen.

Venice '11 Review: 'Shame' A Fascinating Follow-Up To 'Hunger,' With A Tour-De-Force From Fassbender

As English-language directorial debuts in the last few years go, Steve McQueen's "Hunger" ranks up there as one of the most uncompromising. An award-winning, sometimes controversial British artist, McQueen chose to move into feature film by examining the life of IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands, managing not to flinch from any of the grim details, using takes of up to 20 minutes in length, and showcasing a tour-de-force performance from the now firmly-planted-on-the-A-list Michael Fassbender. It picked up an enormous amount of critical support, including the Camera D'Or at Cannes in 2008, and signified both director and star as major talents to watch.

Considering the fact that Carey Mulligan has for ages been attached to the long-gestating, going-nowhere adaptation of "My Fair Lady" alongside Colin Firth, we all knew there was at least some spark of musical talent in the actress. It now looks like we won't have to wait too long some to see evidence of that with Mulligan set to perform a musical number in one of our most anticipated films for the remainder of 2011, Steve McQueen's "Shame."

Steve McQueen Teams With Chiwetel Ejiofor For 'Twelve Years A Slave'; Brad Pitt Producing

There are a good handful of actors and producers around town whose name can "get things made," but there are only a select few who decide to back projects that ordinarily would be perceived as "risky" or as an unwise business investment. Brad Pitt is one of those few. He put his name behind Terrence Malick's "The Tree Of Life" -- a picture he originally wasn't going to star in -- and over the years, he's used his brand to back projects as diverse as "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford," "Year of the Dog," "The Private Lives of Pippa Lee" and "God Grew Tired of Us: The Story of Lost Boys of Sudan." Sure, it might be a bit of mixed bag, but clearly Pitt doesn't mind taking chances or simply doesn't need the validation of a tentpole to his name. And once again, his Plan B shingle is getting behind a promising endeavour.

First Look: Michael Fassbender And Carey Mulligan In Steve McQueen's 'Shame'

It's been a flurry of a morning with the awesome Toronto Film Festival line-up being announced. On top of that comes a ton of first looks at films that have been highly anticipated on our part. First up we have quite a few photos of Steve McQueen's "Shame," starring Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan. McQueen last directed Fassbender in "Hunger," a movie about the 1981 hunger strike in Ireland. "Hunger" was Fassbender's first shove into the spotlight, and he's now one of the year's "it" guys, knocking it out of the park in "X-Men: First Class" earlier this summer and getting ready for an awards push as Carl Jung in David Cronenberg's "A Dangerous Method," rumored to premiere at the Venice Film Festival (and definitely showing at Toronto either way).
