Lupita Nyong'o, Oscars
For anyone watching the Oscars at home last night, they may have noticed something a different about the speeches this year....no one really got played off. It looks like the producers took it easy on the winners in 2014, rarely breaking out the orchestra to hustle people off the stage, leading to some longer than usual acceptance speeches. And in case you were in the bathroom or doing a snack refill, we've got all the major ones below.

Steven Price Ant-Man
With a BAFTA win under his belt last night, and a potential Oscar on the horizon, thirty-six year old rising composer Steven Price couldn't ask for a better arrival in Hollywood. His work on "Gravity" is already career-defining stuff — not bad for only the third feature film composing credit to his name — and it's not a surprise he's already being tapped from all quarters for more gigs. He's already set to tune up David Ayer's forthcoming WWII flick "Fury," and now Price is going superhero for Edgar Wright.

2013: 15 Best Film Scores
Even as frequent soundtrack-listeners, it's only at the end of the year when we come to take stock of the various scores that have passed through our ear canals over the previous twelve months that it's possible to get a measure of the state of composition for film. Which is to say that, having spent the last few days relistening to some of the major scores of 2013, it's been a fantastic year.

Oscars, Score, 2013
This week sees the arrival of Disney's "Frozen," the studio's most acclaimed film in years. It's also a serious throwback to the studio's animated musicals of the late 1980s and 1990s, a full-on songfest with multiple numbers of Broadway quality, and that's useful for our purposes, because this week we're going to focus on the musical categories of the Academy Awards.

While Steven Price might have seemed to come out of nowhere this fall with his teeth-rattling, nerve-fraying score for Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity", it's actually the culmination of years in the industry. He spent a long time as a music editor, working on productions like Christopher Nolan's "Batman Begins," Peter Jackson's "The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers" and "The Lord Of The Rings: The Return Of The King" before he got first chance to step up into the big leagues by composing the score for 2011's "Attack The Block." And while this year Price also scored Edgar Wright's "The World's End" (he had previously done additional music on "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World") he will forever be remembered for his stunning work on "Gravity." And it has clearly gotten him noticed in the right places.

Gravity
Wowing audiences at Venice, Telluride and TIFF, Alfonso Cuaron's space thriller "Gravity" will soon dock in theaters and while much attention has been given to impressive visuals, and nail biting tension, there is another element we're sure is going to start getting some buzz. Namely, the score by Steven Price.

Here's what we know so far about Edgar Wright's "The World's End": it's the final chapter of the Cornetto Trilogy. It stars Simon Pegg, Nick Frost, Rosamund Pike, Martin Freeman and Eddie Marsan. And the story involves friends who reunite after twenty years to go on an epic pub crawl, only for the fate of humankind to somehow cross their paths. And with production currently underway, a few more intriguing morsels about the film have emerged.
