Bryan Singer Superman Returns Kevin Spacey Brandon Routh
For a film that no-one really seems to much like and everyone thinks of as fairly unmemorable, the filmosphere sure does do a lot of talking about 2006's Bryan Singer-directed Superman reboot, “Superman Returns.” We right here have debated its merits as a Superman movie, trashed it, and speculated about the sequel to it that never was on account of its having underwhelmed more or less everybody.

Ranking The Superman films
Perhaps you’ve heard about a little movie that’s opening this week called “Man of Steel.” The small, under-the-radar, kitchen sink drama follows the adventures of one Superman as he struggles with the kind of identity issues familiar to many x-ray sighted, preternaturally strong orphan aliens gifted with the power of flight, and saves humankind from a terrible peril. Ahh, "Superman Returns," the prickly, uncomfortable thorn in the comic book movie geek's side. Far better than say, half of the 20th Century Fox films -- "Daredevil," "Elektra," "Fantastic Four," "Ghost Rider" and "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" -- or half the super hero movies ever made including "Punisher," "Catwoman," "Jonah Hex," "Swamp Thing," "Batman Forever," "Batman & Robin," etc., etc. The film is admittedly uneven and somewhat unsatisfying, but there's something about its DNA that really riles up some particular comic book movie fans.
