Filmmaker David Gordon Green has had a deeply eclectic career of omnivorous tastes thus far. To perhaps best demonstrate the polar extremes, the 37-year-old director (who has already made nine features) has had films produced by Terrence Malick ("Undertow") and Judd Apatow ("Pineapple Express"). His body of work thus far has covered intimate indie dramas featuring children ("George Washington"), broad comedies ("The Sitter"), adult dramas ("Snow Angels"), and high concept absurdist swords and sorcerer pictures ("Your Highness"). His oeuvre has run the gamut of styles, tones and genres.

Filmmaker David Gordon Green's latest effort, "Prince Avalanche," is getting some of the best reviews of his career. A hit at Sundance, that just got picked up by Magnolia Pictures, the unusual, poetically observational pas de deux comedy is funny, but also unexpectedly moving and human (you can read our review here). Starring Paul Rudd and Emile Hirsch as estranged Beckett-ian odd-couple road crew workers in Texas, the film charts their fractious personal dynamics, their existential uncertainties, and perhaps most impressively, the way they come to ultimately empathize and bond with one another.

Frequently namechecked by critics, fellow actors and directors as one of the greatest screen actors alive, French actress Isabelle Huppert is the subject of the first of a series of impressive tributes to be made at this year’s Marrakech International Film Festival. She is also being honoured here by an eclectic, 11-movie sampling of her back catalogue, including 1980 Gerard Depardieu-starrer “Loulou”; Michael Haneke’s “The Piano Teacher,” for which she won the second of her two Best Actress awards in Cannes; and her more recent work with Brillante Mendoza and Hong Sang-soo, “Captive” and “In Another Country.”

Hot on the heels of the announcement that spooky Isabelle Fuhrman will headline David Gordon Green's long-discussed but now-actually-happening "Suspiria" remake, comes word that several more actors have joined the cast. In a piece about French production company Wild Bunch's Cannes slate, ScreenDaily reports that international treasure Isabelle Huppert has joined the cast of "Suspiria" alongside Janet McTeer, Michael Nyqvist and Antje Traue. This cast is already scary good.

We're about to move towards yet another act of David Gordon Green's career. The filmmaker started off with "George Washington," "All The Real Girls" and "Undertow" as a possible heir to Terrence Malick's meditative indie throne, but took a severe left-turn about five years back into abrasive stoner comedy, a shift which had both its successes ("Pineapple Express," "Eastbound & Down") and failures ("Your Highness," "The Sitter"). But for now, it seems, the director is about to try something new, and move into the horror world for his long-gestating remake of Dario Argento's horror classic "Suspiria."

We have to admit, we thought that after the double-whammy of flops in "Your Highness" and "The Sitter," David Gordon Green might have trouble getting his ambitious redo of Dario Argento's "Suspiria" off the ground. At least at a studio, anyway. But the resilient filmmaker has landed finacing courtesy of Crime Scene Pictures (the relatively new shingle that is also behind the Coens' penned "Gambit" with Colin Firth and Cameron Diaz) and things are now clicking for a September shoot. Nice.
