The Wolverine
The narrative for months before and during the making of the movie by James Mangold and Hugh Jackman, was a borderline campaign apology that read something like: “Please excuse the inexcusable ‘X-Men Origins: Wolverine.’ We are starting over here. Please take this journey with us as we explore the Wolverine story you’ve always wanted to see on screen.” And so the question for fans is: did the pair succeed in this goal? The answer, in conclusion, is a resounding "no," but it’s but not for want of trying.

The Wolverine, Logan, Mariko
Comic-Con is just a few days away, and even though "The Wolverine" will be rolling into San Diego in a final push to woo and wow nerds, that hasn't stopped the Fox marketing machine. As per usual, they are dumping as much as they possibly can from their summer tentpole short of including the credits, and four more brief clips have rolled online, keeping interest in the fanged hero polished.

The Wolverine Logan Viper
Well, the summer season of the superhero movies is winding down. "The Wolverine" gets its fangs out in a couple of weeks, the kids of "Kick-Ass 2" do their thing next month and then we'll have a reprieve until "Thor: The Dark World" later in the year. But these movies need promoting, and Fox is trying to ensure their second stab at standalone a Wolverine movie is more successful than the first time out. But will it all work?

Compared to some of its summer blockbuster superhero competition -- "Iron Man 3" and "Man Of Steel" -- "The Wolverine" has been playing its cards close to its chest. We've seen a smattering of images, and lots of encouraging talk from director James Mangold and star Hugh Jackman, but not a frame of footage so far, and in general the film's a little more under the radar than its rivals, though we suppose that's fair enough, given that it won't hit theaters 'til much later.

You may not know her name -- or be able to say or spell it -- but next summer geeks everywhere will have Svetlana Khodchenkova down cold. The actress, probably best known for her part in last year's "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," got her Hollywood break and nabbed the role of Viper in "The Wolverine" after Jessica Biel dropped out. And now, a little teaser of her in the movie has landed online.

Well, that didn't take long. In a week that saw Jessica Biel land and then abandon the role of Viper in "The Wolverine," it looks like a replacement has been found, although it's a name that's going to need a bit more room on the poster.
