Warner Bros. Shutting Down 'Tarzan' Production Office, Might Try To Make It In 2014

Looks like Warner Bros. is pulling an "Akira," "Paradise Lost" and "Arthur & Lancelot" on "Tarzan." The studio, which famously shut down all of those aforementioned films while they were in pre-production, is doing the same thing with "Tarzan" for pretty much same reason: money, money, money.

Two-time Oscar nominee Jessica Chastain has seemingly done it all -- including a low-rent horror movie -- but has yet to dip her toes in the blockbuster world. Opportunities arose last year with parts in "Oblivion" and "Iron Man 3" floated her way but they didn't pan out. But now another movie may find her on a vine, swinging hard for the multiplex.

If want to know what the future holds at the multiplex, just look at Warner Bros. latest deal with IMAX. The two companies have shaken hands on 20 movies that will get the supersize treatment, but among the press release (via Nolan Fans) are some interesting tidbits about some very big high profile films thare are on the way.

After kicking around handful of options at Warner Bros. including the drama "Your Voice In My Head," the thriller "The Imitation Game" and potential gangster epic "Cicero," 'Harry Potter' helmer David Yates has finally settled on "Tarzan" as his next project. The decision has slowly been coming over the past few months, but now it's time to find out who's going to shirtless and swinging from vines, and some interesting names are cropping up.

Remember this spring when it was announced that Kellan Lutz and Spencer Locke were going to be Tarzan and Jane in "Tarzan 3D"? Yeah, we barely do either. But apparently production moved ahead and this thing is for real, as a trailer has dropped, but it'll make you wonder why they're bothering in the first place.

Craig Brewer, director of the upcoming reimagining of “Footloose,” told The Playlist over the weekend that he recently finished his latest draft on a new script about Edgar Rice Burroughs’ iconic jungle-dweller, Tarzan. But while the commercial promise of his current film heralds good things for future ones, he said he isn’t counting his chickens before they’re hatched.
