Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Let’s recap since we didn’t really do a proper box-office report last weekend (aside from this brief report). Despite middling reviews, and tepid online buzz, Platinum Dunes’ “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” reboot surprised everyone with a $65 million debut weekend that took the #1 slot and prevented Marvel’s “Guardians Of The Galaxy” from claiming the top slot for two weeks in a row. Clearly some members of the population (maybe kids with less bias) were more than happy to 'shell' over their money for ‘TMNT.’ Marvel’s ‘Guardians’ wasn’t able to repeat at #1 like many expected, but it hasn't mattered much. The movie took only 15 days to hit the $200 million mark which is the fastest film to hit that milestone in 2014.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Never again will August be seen as the summer dumping ground for movies that studios have little confidence in. Last week, "Guardians Of The Galaxy" proved that all bets were off with a record breaking debut, and this past weekend "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" showed that August audiences are ready to plunk down their hard-earned for late-summer blockbusters.

In “The Great Gatsby,” F. Scott Fitzgerald describes Tom Buchanan's size as “cruel.” Before we meet the character, the narrative tells us that his physicality is brutish and unpleasant, undermining Buchanan's desire for others to bask in his own Übermensch status. The bodies and faces of the title characters in Jonathan Liebesman's nonsensical “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” can be described in a similar way. Their shoulders are blocky, their biceps bulging. It's unclear where their chests end and their heads begin. Just seeing them in motion feels oppressive.

With Michael Bay's "Transformers: Age Of Extinction" achieving a $1 billion gross worldwide this weekend, the question is: can Bay strike twice this summer? The premiere purveyor of cinematic explosions is the producer of the upcoming "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles": the first reviews have arrived, and it's no pizza party.

"Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" are coming, and there are certainly a lot of fans out there very invested in how this latest big screen take on the comic characters will do them justice. Or not. But according to Megan Fox, fans really don't have any reason to be concerned.

"Transformers: Age Of Extinction" isn't the only Michael Bay joint coming this summer. While his robots will smash and explode things this weekend, in August his Platinum Dunes shingle reteams with former Bay foe Megan Fox, with the actress headlining "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." No, she isn't actually one of the turtles (we'd watch the shit out of that movie), but April O'Neil who uncovers our pizza loving heroes who are just trying to save the world.

At one point, "Guardians Of The Galaxy" seemed like the biggest question mark of the summer season, but with each successive trailer and piece of marketing, it looks like director James Gunn got the mix of weird and mainstream right. Now the question is: can Jonathan Liebesman do the same for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles"?

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles
Not content with simply rebooting slasher franchises like “Friday The 13th,” “Nightmare On Elm Street” and “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre," Michael Bay’s production company Platinum Dunes decided to tack their approach to “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," and the results we’ve seen thus far seem to be horrific indeed. A first trailer last month debuted our first look at the terrifying Turtles in action, and now another has followed with a few more insights into the direction of the film.

So you’re wondering how Megan Fox is back in the Michael Bay fold, right? No, she’s not in “Transformers” once again, but she is the star of “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles," the Platinum Dunes (Bay’s company)-produced picture. In the past, she called him Hitler, he had nasty words for her and there was a lot of back and forth (which lead to her being kicked out of the the series for “Transformers: Dark Of The Moon”).

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Megan Fox
Never in a million years would I have thought the nostalgia for the “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” was at an all-time high, especially considering the mediocre original films and cartoon series that wasn’t all that special, but this is when you realize you’re old and not the right demo.
