In Theaters: 'The Master' Hopes To Not Have The Weekend 'Stolen' By 'Resident Evil' Or 'Liberal Arts'

It’s back-to-school season, in the real world and in Movieland, as art continues to imitate life. As you (or your kids, or a friend, or maybe just some random person on the corner) get back into the swing of the classroom, you can watch the big screen stars do the same thing! We do mean this literally, as two films this weekend are set within the hallowed walls of institutions of learning. But there are plenty of protagonists receiving informal educations (to Scientology… question mark?), learning new trades, and reintroducing themselves to the world as well. So go hit the books, then the theaters. Or vice versa: we won’t tattle.

Despite already having a very busy and successful year -- three #1 movies that each took over $100 million -- Channing Tatum has another release coming up, the indie dramedy “10 Years” and we have the details on the digital release of the soundtrack.

As Channing Tatum has navigated Hollywood and impressively built his career along the way (three #1 movies in 2012, just sayin'), he's also amassed a helluva Rolodex. And it seems he's called in favors from everyone for "10 Years." The project, produced by Tatum, comes from “Dear John” and "We Are Marshall" writer Jamie Linden (who is also makes his directorial debut) and stars Jenna Dewan-Tatum, Brian Geraghty, Anthony Mackie, Kate Mara, Rosario Dawson, Justin Long, Scott Porter, Chris Pratt, Aubrey Plaza and Oscar Isaac in a dramedy about a group of friends who, you guessed it, gather for the ten-year reunion.

A few changes on the calendar, so get out those dry-erase markers. First up, while every studio has been tiptoeing around "The Hobbit" and its mid-December release date, Universal has finally grabbed their nutsack and said "Fuck that," moving their star-powered musical "Les Miserables" back a week to December 14th. Put that in your pipe and smoke it Gandalf! Starring Hugh Jackman, Russell Crowe, Anne Hathaway, Sacha Baron Cohen, Amanda Seyfried, Helena Bonham Carter and more, not only does this have the red carpet appeal of an awards season player, it also has the Broadway history to make mad box office bling. That pic of Crowe up there isn't an official still, but holy shit we wish it was.

While Anchor Bay Nab Starry Channing Tatum-Led Ensemble Drama 'Ten Year'For a while, we were starting to wonder if we'd dreamed the Will Ferrell comedy "Casa De Mi Padre." On almost no one's radar before the start of this year, a surprise trailer for the project, a Spanish-language film co-starring Gael Garcia Bernal and Diego Luna, debuted back in the spring, but nothing's been heard from the film since, and we had to double check our archives to make sure it was a real thing, and not something that we'd imagined after a night with too many telenovelas and too much meth.

TIFF '11 Review: 'Ten Year' Brings Together A Strong Cast For A Mixed Bag Of Comedy & Drama

Births, funerals, marriage, anniversaries and even annual vacations have all served as plot devices in the reunion film, a genre that usually finds middle-aged or older characters dealing with a crisis that is exacerbated by seeing old family and friends. And while "Ten Year" certainly isn't breaking new territory, producer and star Channing Tatum, along with writer/director Jamie Linden ("Dear John"), do take an interesting approach. Wisely not going far beyond their own age bracket, this film brings together a pretty solid ensemble cast of some of the best up-and-coming actors working right now for a tale that catches up with a gaggle of friends for a reunion -- you guessed it -- ten years after their graduation from high school. Taking on a bunch of characters as they leave their twenties is definitely a smart concept but instead of offering what could have been an honest look at contemporary soon-to-be thirtysomethings and the challenges, fears and triumphs they have endured, "Ten Year" delivers a mixed bag of CW plots that at worst are cliché and predictable, with a very few that do stand out.

While Channing Tatum may have seemed like just another fresh face trying to make it in Hollywood when he first popped up in films like "A Guide to Recognizing Your Saints" and "Step Up," he's been taking big strides towards having a much more multi-faceted and lasting impact on the industry. He's been savvy with his movie choices, mixing up commercial fare with work for respected directors like Michael Mann, Kevin Macdonald, Ron Howard, Kimberly Peirce and Steven Soderbergh. But more than that, Tatum is now beginning to produce his own movies as well. The forthcoming "21 Jump Street" and "Magic Mike" with both find him tagged with a producer credit, but first out of the gate with that title against his name will be "Ten Year."

While Channing Tatum hasn't impressed us with his acting prowess just yet, it's hard to hate on the guy because he's driven by a sincere desire to do good work. For every "Step Up," "Fighting" or "Dear John" the actor has a "Public Enemies," "The Eagle" or "Haywire" to balance things out and wisely, he's moving into producing to get vehicles he's more interested in doing off the ground. Both "21 Jump Street" and the upcoming Steven Soderbergh stripper flick "Magic Mike" will find Tatum with a more active role behind the scenes, but before both of those pictures, his first producing effort "Ten Year" will hit TIFF next month.

'Ten Year' With Channing Tatum & Rosario Dawson Gets A New Photo As WellDid you forget about this? Yeah, we kinda did too, but last year Lasse Hallström took over from Bill Condon -- who instead decided to make "Twilight: Breaking Dawn" -- and shot the rom-com "Salmon Fishing In Yemen," and in case you didn't notice a trend this afternoon, it's heading to TIFF and we now have our first look.
