While the domestic box office for "The Adventures Of Tintin" barely made it over $75 million -- a disappointment to be sure -- internationally, the film slayed and the worldwide box office topped off at just over $370 million, which isn't too bad. A sequel has always been the plan, with Peter Jackson saying last year he'd get behind the camera for the movie once he was done with "The Hobbit," which we always figured meant once he wrapped up those two massive pictures entirely (he's still in the midst of the lengthy production). But recent comments by the first film's director Steven Spielberg suggest everyone could get into mo-cap suits as early as this year.

Twas the night before and/or the night of Christmas, and all through the theaters, it was empty and chilly, no maintenance, no heaters. Most moviegoers selected the 'Ghost Protocol,' with the legend from "Legend" and that guy from "Paul." "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" couldn't beat the Tom Cruise sequel. Not even the Steven Spielberg-Peter Jackson collaboration could be its equal.

It seems somewhat appropriate that the week that sees Steven Spielberg celebrate his 65th birthday (which was on Monday) also sees the release of two new films from the director, arguably the most successful, and certainly one of the most famous, filmmakers of all time. The director has always been something of a workhorse, with 29 feature films across a 40-year career (that's one every eighteen months, more or less), all without mentioning his early TV credits, his countless producing credits and even helping to run an entire studio.

Tintin is a terrible journalist. It has to be said -- his walls are covered with framed news stories about his exploits rather than work published under his byline, he takes not one note (pity his poor fact-checker) and not even by the laxest of Fox News standards could he be considered objective, given how much he involves himself in the tale of pirate ships and lost treasures that unfurls in Steven Spielberg's "The Adventures of Tintin." You could also argue that Indiana Jones is a questionable archaeologist, with the cultural imperialism of his carefree snagging of international artifacts and the amount of destruction he leaves in the wake of his exploration of historical sites. But Indiana Jones has personality, and, like the man says, personality goes a long way.

Even before "The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn" hit theaters, the filmmakers were planning not one but two sequels -- commissioning writer Anthony Horowitz for at least one of them, which Peter Jackson would direct. The next installments was long thought to be "Prisoners of the Sun," but producer Kathleen Kennedy told The Playlist that they have different stories in mind now for the second film, including one that Peter Jackson had previously said he's a fan of. Moreover, it seems "Prisoners Of The Sun," rumored to be the third movie instead of the second, may not factor it at all.

In an extensive interview with the Los Angeles Times' Hero Complex blog (conducted at last summer's San Diego Comic-Con), Steven Spielberg and Peter Jackson discussed their new motion-captured animated adventure "The Adventures of Tintin." While a lot of the interview covers ground that we've all heard before (like Jackson dressing as Captain Haddock in the live action screen test and Spielberg being turned onto 'Tintin' when European critics compared "Raiders of the Lost Ark" to it), but there are also some gems, like how Spielberg seemed artistically liberated by the freedom of the mo-cap world, but admitted he was probably a lousy fit for a traditionally animated movie.
