Spider-Man Kraven
So, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is in the bag—and we broke down everything that didn't work (and did)—so might as well start talking about "The Amazing Spider-Man 3." The film is due in theatres in 2016, and naturally, director Marc Webb is already being asked about what's to come. With 'TASM2' laying down the seeds for Sinister Six, it would seem Webb has a slew of options, but it's actually another character—one who hasn't received a big screen incarnation yet—that he'd really like to bring to the table.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Even though "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" topped the box office the weekend, the Rotten Tomatoes, Metacritic and CinemaScore grades for the film were all down from the first entry in the new series. This afternoon, we broke down all the ways Marc Webb's film went wrong (and few things it got right), but one fan is taking his displeasure a bit further.

Amazing Spider-Man 2, post-mortem
As you're probably aware at this point from the inescapable marketing onslaught (damn that Evian Spider-baby to the darkest depths of hell), "The Amazing Spider-Man 2," Sony's sequel to the reboot of the series based on a comic-book, hit theaters in the U.S. on Friday, after opening in much of the rest of the world in mid-April. Seeing Andrew Garfield's Spider-Man take on Jamie Foxx's Electro and Dane DeHaan's Green Goblin (plus, in a cameo, Paul Giamatti's Rhino) while continuing to woo Emma Stone's Gwen Stacy, it had a strong box office weekend, although falling short of the total of both the first and third Sam Raimi Spider-pictures, and last month's Marvel entry "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." Perhaps more importantly, the film fell short critically, with lower Rotten Tomatoes and Metacritic scores than any of the previous films in the franchise, while our official review pretty much straight-up loathed it.

Amazing Spider-Man 2
It wasn't long ago when the Twittersphere shared rumblings that Sony were concerned about the tracking for "The Amazing Spider-Man 2." Whether that's true or not, the studio had nothing to worry about. While there were complaints about the "show everything" marketing campaign, and though critics were far less kind to the sequel than its predecessor, "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" shot a web into the top spot this weekend, with a massive $92 million opening.

Best/Worst Super Villains Feature
It's only May (and even then, only just May), and we're already into our second superhero movie of the year, with this week's "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" following hot on the heels of last month's "Captain America: The Winter Soldier." This is only kicking off our regular summer programming of battles between good and evil and wisecracking aliens/mutants/mutant aliens come to save/destroy the world/Galaxy/Universe, and the dualism that every superhero film relies on means that every hero needs an adversary, or in the case of Peter Parker these weekend, about four hundred of them (none of whom, as our review relates, are very compelling). Because, hey, everybody loves a bad guy, so why not cram in a whole shedload?

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Kevin Feige might be the sorcerer supremre of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but when it comes to the "Amazing Spider-Man 2" (and it's own expanding universe), Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach are it. Arad is the guy who, back when he ran Marvel, got the comics company back on its feet and started Marvel Studios as a company that could eventually rival any of its Hollywood contemporaries. (It's also worth noting that without his aggressively innovative management, Disney would have never bought Marvel.) Arad now shepherds the crown jewel property that is, as of yet, out of Disney's hands: Spider-Man. Together with Tolmach, Arad's new goal is to rival Marvel's sprawling cinematic landscape, complete with a whole continuum of spin-offs and sequels. We talked about the possibility of multiple cinematic Spider-Men, if the Mary Jane footage will ever see the light of day, and whether or not they see the Spider-universe infecting the small screen too.

The Other Woman
Terrible reviews and a dismal 25% Rotten Tomatoes score, you say? That did not matter to female audiences this weekend who wanted a little girl power as they flocked to “The Other Woman” starring Cameron Diaz, Leslie Mann and Kate Upton as a cooperative that band together in the name of female-based revenge against a cheatin’ asshole. Perhaps that was the unifying hook that drew the underserved female audiences in because the movie scored the number box-office slot with an approximately $24.7 million in receipts. In the process, the movie unseated “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” that spent three weeks at the top of the box-office until now.

The Amazing Spider-Man 2
While "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" is slinging its stuff overseas to some rather big office numbers, stateside we continue to wait for the latest adventure in the rebooted franchise. But that just gives Sony more time to make sure everyone comes out next week to see the movie, with the studio expecting an opening approaching $100 million. So to that end, more pics, featurettes and teasers about what's coming in next chapters of the series.
