Between the recent Television Critics Association winter press tour and the 18th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards, there's been a lot of news trickling in about related Joss Whedon projects like "The Avengers 2," ABC's would-be "S.H.I.E.L.D." TV show, and more. Perhaps most interesting is Whedon recently admitting that he would have loved to direct "Star Wars: Episode VII" and that he's bummed there's no way his busy schedule would allow it.

We just got off the phone with Seamus McGarvey, the genius cinematographer behind everything from "We Need To Talk About Kevin" to "The Avengers," to discuss this week's brilliant "Anna Karenina." Of course, we had to ask if McGarvey would be back for "The Avengers 2," which will see original writer/director Joss Whedon returning (Disney already has May 1st, 2015 release date penciled in). It turns out that Whedon is already looking to bring back one of his big guns for the sequel.

Despite the fact that “The Avengers 2” doesn’t even have a script and that Marvel hasn’t completely nailed down their Phase 2 plans yet, there are already rumors about the new characters that would appear in the film, and even about who will play them. So grab some salt and take a seat while we talk about stuff that’s not even close to happening.

Marvel Plans Update #4536211: We're three years away from "The Avengers 2," and with Marvel Phase 2 pretty much mapped out, it means that speculation is now beginning on what's going to happen years for now, meaning every burp and fart from anyone involved in those films, will be reported and scrutinzed to the nth degree. And so thus, here we are talking about the possibility of a standalone Hulk movie.

With "The Avengers" headed to home video next week, Marvel Phase One now fades into the sunset, and Phase Two is already underway with "Iron Man 3" in front of cameras. And with a full slate over the next few years, under the stewardship of Joss Whedon, with "Thor: The Dark World," "Captain America: The Winter Soldier" and "Guardians Of The Galaxy" also on the way all leading towards "The Avengers 2," it's no surprise that the superhero roster is going to get bigger.

As follow-ups to one of the three biggest movies of all time go, making a Shakespeare movie in your back garden with your friends must go down in history as one of the more unlikely ones. But that's exactly what "The Avengers" director Joss Whedon did, using the time between the Marvel pic wrapping and the start of post-production to direct a low-budget black-and-white version of "Much Ado About Nothing" starring Whedonverse graduates like Amy Acker, Alexis Denisof, Nathan Fillion, Clark Gregg, Fran Kranz and Sean Maher among the cast.

With "Iron Man 3" shooting, and "Thor: The Dark World" gearing up later this year, and with no new Marvel movies until 2013, geeks are in a bit of dead zone at the moment. But leave it to Vin Diesel to get nerds to push the glasses up from their nose and hit the interwebs with feverish excitement. The actor recently changed his Facebook profile picture to that of Vision (it has been removed but you can view it here), leading some to think he was giving fans some kind of casting tease and not just posting a picture of a superhero that he likes. Apparently this counts as a "rumor" that he might appear in "The Avengers 2," even though Joss Whedon agreed to write and direct the movie only about a week ago.

Well, the speculation that has been knocking around for the past few weeks is more or less confirmed, as Marvel has officially stamped a release date for "The Avengers: [Insert Subtitle Here]" -- and you're going to be waiting three years.

With Disney confirming development of "The Avengers 2" shortly after its record breaking opening weekend, and with Marvel unveiling a logo at Comic-Con, all that was left to do was get writer/director Joss Whedon back on board. “I have not come to a decision on directing 'Avengers 2' yet,” he said only just a couple of weeks ago. “I am having too much fun with this ('Firefly' reunion) now.” But it looks like the dump truck full of money and promises from Disney and Marvel has finally landed.
