It’s likely impossible to avoid at this point, but in case you’ve been living under a rock, reviews for “Thor: The Dark World” have arrived (read ours here). That means related press for all the cast and hundreds of online journals grilling Marvel Chief Kevin Feige for morsels of details about "The Avengers" sequel and what the hell is going on with Marvel’s Phase 3 plans (as of right now, it’s a lot of carved out release dates with no movies actually announced).

While there is still no official casting for "Avengers 2: Age of Ultron," probably because the movie is still a considerable time away from hitting theaters, it looks like Marvel is getting their ducks in a row. Unless something goes horribly wrong, Aaron Taylor-Johnson is pretty much set to play Quicksilver in the movie, with Elizabeth Olsen long rumored to play his sister, Scarlet Witch. Well, consider that rumor confirmed?

You manage to snag a pass from the always faulty and troublesome Comic-Con site, you fly to San Diego, pay an outrageous amount for a hotel, dress up as Thor, line up for hours in the hope of gaining access for a spot in the Marvel panel presentation, you finally get in, the lights dim and all that struggle was worth it for....this?

There’s no doubting the fact that Joss Whedon is pretty much on top of the world right now. After years of having varying degrees of success in television, once Whedon got his hands on “The Avengers” and helped it become the third-highest-grossing movie of all time, he’s suddenly become a very hot commodity, and a guru-like figure down at Marvel. He had enough success in the past to develop a cult-like following for himself, but now it’s a whole different ballgame. Now he’s got some serious responsibilities. He’s returned to television to help develop, and direct the pilot for, “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” and he’s got “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” on his plate as well. He’s booked solid for the next year or two.

If you're wondering what the heck an Ultron is, not to worry because Marvel has got you covered. Even though the movie isn't slated to drop until 2015, Joss Whedon and co. have been busy getting their ducks in a row for "The Avengers" sequel (after all, those Phase Two post-credits teasers don't cast themselves). Elizabeth Olsen and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are expected to play Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver in the superhero followup, and now the villain who will get the band back together one more time, now has an actor to play it.

If Marvel has proven one thing thus far in their cinematic universe, no one is ever really dead. As we saw in "The Avengers," with Agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) seemingly dying only to be resurrected for this fall's TV jaunt "The Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.," the long term value of a character is worth more than short term dramatic stakes. But the question is, can Marvel or current creative godfather Joss Whedon get the brass ones to actually kill off a beloved character? Well, the answer is simple: it has to make sense.

Scarlet With Avengers 2 Elizabeth Olsen
It’s just two years from the nerd singularity — the 2015 summer movie season — and pre-production on “Avengers: Age Of Ultron” has moved along swimmingly. Of the film’s new characters, we know that Aaron Taylor-Johnson is the frontrunner for the role of Quicksilver but the character’s twin sister has been more of a mystery, until now apparently.

You know you're dealing with the obsessive, knotty world of comic book movies when merely announcing the title of a movie can send a legion of dedicated super-fans into a speculative frenzy. This was the case when Marvel unveiled the subtitle for their highly anticipated sequel to last year's "The Avengers," titled "The Avengers: Age of Ultron." (For those without a basement full of long boxes, Ultron was a robot menace that turned out to be one of the team's deadliest foes.) While the movie isn't going to be released until the summer of 2015, details have started to emerge about what to expect from the sequel, with handsome dandy Tom Hiddleston confirming that his fanciful Loki will not be the villain for a second (third, if you count "Thor") time, Edgar Wright clarifying the film's connection to his own "Ant-Man" and "Avengers: Age of Ultron" writer/director Joss Whedon offering further tidbits (including stuff about Thanos and The Vision).

While "Kick-Ass 2" star Aaron Taylor-Johnson has yet to be officially confirmed as Quicksilver in the forthcoming superhero sequel "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," he's been the clear frontrunner for a couple of months now. And just days before the D23 Expo in Anaheim (Disney's version of Comic Con), where Disney is expected to make some major Marvel announcements, Taylor-Johnson spills the beans about his approach to the iconic character. As he's quick to point out to Total Film, he's not officially signed up for the role, but that doesn't stop him from talking about it. A lot.

While cross-property narratives may push the possibilities of comic-book films into new frontiers, the notion can also grind to a halt once character rights come into question. Such is the case with superhero mutants Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver, who both play into upcoming sequels “X-Men: Days of Future Past” and “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” and therefore the equally held rights of Fox and Marvel. But the idea of side-by-side depictions hasn't fazed Joss Whedon, who said they're a “huge part of ['The Avengers 2'],” and now it seems one-half of his duo is nearing a lock.
