Marvel Vs. DC
A simple, but terrific (and possibly frightening) observation has been made by our friends over at Rope Of Silicon: over the next four years, if everything goes according to plan for every studio, we're going to see twenty-three (count ‘em) super hero films. Because, as you know, the comic book movie arms race is officially on.

Josh Brolin, Thanos In 'Guardians Of The Galaxy
The crime thriller “Sicario” is sounding better and better every day. It’s already being directed by Denis Villeneuve, the filmmaker behind “Prisoners” and “Enemy,” and it stars Emily Blunt and Benicio Del Toro. If that's not enough, celebrated director of photography Roger Deakins, who shot “Prisoners” (so underrated), has confirmed he’ll be the DP on this picture as well.

Guardians Of The Galaxy/Avengers
Everyone wants a spin-off. That’s the talk du jour. It’s not enough to just have a franchise, you need solo films to keep that franchise going and going. It’s the new black: release a movie every other year while the main mothership has its flagship super-movie every two or three years, right? Fox hopes to do the same with the “X-Men: Days Of Future Past” series and Mystique (a mooted spin-off while the super-hero team carries on every other few years). And Marvel obviously already has this plan in place: an “Avengers” movie ever few years and in between them they have their solo character movies, “Captain America: The Winter Soldier,” “Ant-Man,” “Thor: The Dark World” etc.

Guardians Of The Galaxy
With Marvel plotting their cinematic map all the way to 2028, it's not a surprise to learn that thoughts are already percolating about "The Avengers 3." As folks know, Joss Whedon's Marvel contract expires after he drops "The Avengers: Age Of Ultron," so we'll have to see if he stays committed to the comic world that has earned his biggest success. But even if not, the path to the inevitable third movie is already being laid.

It’s likely impossible to avoid at this point, but in case you’ve been living under a rock, reviews for “Thor: The Dark World” have arrived (read ours here). That means related press for all the cast and hundreds of online journals grilling Marvel Chief Kevin Feige for morsels of details about "The Avengers" sequel and what the hell is going on with Marvel’s Phase 3 plans (as of right now, it’s a lot of carved out release dates with no movies actually announced).

So remember all that talk about Robert Downey Jr. walking away from Iron Man, conveniently timed around the release of "Iron Man 3"? Well, it looks like cooler heads and/or lots of cash has prevailed as Tony Stark isn't going anywhere...as far as The Avengers are concerned anyway....

Of the many things that contributed to the billion-dollar success of Marvel's "The Avengers" last year, one of the most obvious was the reboot of The Hulk. Now inhabited by Mark Ruffalo, the character was more tortured than ever before (if that was even possible), but also more funny, instantly charming fans and newcomers alike around the world with little more than the words: "Hulk smash." And while a standalone movie seemed like a no-brainer, last spring fans were told that the earliest they would see that happen is 2015.Additionally, while a TV series for the character was teased at the time as well, Guillermo Del Toro recently suggested those plans are on hold for now. So what gives? Well, if these rumors are close to correct, The Hulk will be a major player in Phase Two and Phase Three of Marvel's rollout.
