One of the biggest questions surrounding this spring's superhero pileup "The Avengers" is how on Earth the film is going to juggle all the tights wearing leads without losing focus. Well, the answer appears to be quite simple.

Admittedly, Team Playlist is an oddball collection of cinephiles, snobs and genre-dorks, sometimes only unified by one thing: a healthy dose of skepticism in a world largely occupied by wishful-thinking fanboys. But this diversity means that we can be at once cynical optimists and optimistic cynics.

If 2011 was a busy year for the beloved Joss Whedon production-wise, both with the shooting of his major tentpole picture “The Avengers” along with his secretly lensed adaptation of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” then 2012 should be a time for Whedon to sit back and watch these hotly anticipated projects unfurl. Along with 'Avengers' and 'Much Ado,' we’ll also see the release of “Cabin in the Woods,” a long stalled Drew Goddard-directed/Whedon-penned project that Lionsgate acquired following the financial shakeup at the film’s original studio MGM.

You may have forgotten, but Marvel was always planning on taking a couple more dollars out of your Iron Man wallet by converting "The Avengers" to 3D. Today that plan seems even more official, as "The Avengers" shall forth be known as "The Avengers 3D." The movie is already looking busy with Thor, Tony Stark, Hawkeye, Captain America, Loki, Pepper Potts, Bruce Banner, Phil Coulson and Nick Fury all running around doing stuff, so we're not we need this thing in some hastily coverted 3D to further fry our eyeballs, but to quote David Fincher, to each his own.

If there's one potentially awful big screen remake of a classic (maybe the word classic should have been in ironic quotes) that we're looking forward to, it's "21 Jump Street." There's really no reason this thing should work - it's a comedic take on a dramatic series, which worked out so well for "Starsky & Hutch;" it co-stars the frequently wooden Channing Tatum; and it just reeks of a kind of desperate nostalgia. That said: we cannot wait. And now we have a new-ish trailer and poster to hold us over. Also, some new footage from "The Avengers" comes courtesy of a German trailer that seems awfully strident and authoritarian.

Since 2009, Jeremy Renner has established himself as the go-to guy for characters with mysterious pasts and unpredictable futures. In fact, he’s so good at it, he got two Oscar nominations in a row playing them in “The Hurt Locker” and “The Town.” In “Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol,” Renner plays another character, Will Brandt, whose history is linked in unrevealed ways to the series’ longtime hero, Ethan Hunt, and in perhaps predictable form, Renner is reluctant to say too much about Brandt, even in an interview about the film.

Even though we're right in the middle of awards season hoopla, it looks like the year (or this week anyway) is going to end on a geeky note. In addition to the much-talked-about prologue, a new trailer for "The Dark Knight Rises" has already leaked online and is expected to be officially released very soon, a poster dropped for "Prometheus" (and a new trailer should coming soon as well) and now two of the big comic book movies of next spring/summer are getting out of the gate with some stuff to look at.
