It just wouldn’t be Comic-Con without Marvel. We have to admit, the opening moments of this trailer had us worried with the ominous BRAAAAHM sound design and initial footage looking like "Rise Of The Inception Battle For Transformers In Los Angeles" but once it settles in, the first full trailer for "The Avengers" makes it look like the film will deliver the goods.

Can you tell the marketing campaign for "The Avengers" is heating up? Just like those pics from Tarsem's Snow White movie that landed earlier today, Marvel has been handing out pics to a variety of outlets and now a few more have cropped up. Nothing earth shattering really -- new looks at Hawkeye (Jeremy Renner) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) -- but also a set photo that seems to reveal “How I Met Your Mother” star Cobie Smulders as S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Maria Hill.

Also Reveals That Steve Rogers Will Likely Just Appear In 'Captain America' & 'Avengers' Films, No Other Marvel Movie CameosMarvel's rather revolutionary roll of the dice on their big screen movie adaptations has found them creating a giant universe of connected films, where superheroes and characters cross-pollinate the films that are part of a singular fabric. In order to make this happen, the comic and movie studio giant has become known for signing up key players with contracts for multiple films -- Samuel L. Jackson famously has nine movies he's obliged to appear in -- allowing for lots of Easter eggs and surprise cameos. But while Jackson is A consistent presence in the Marvel world, and fans buzzed when Robert Downey Jr. made a brief appearance as Tony Stark in “The Incredible Hulk,” don't expect to see Chris Evans logging time in anything but "Captain America" or "The Avengers" movies.

D23 Event Is An All Too Brief & Nearly Pointless TeaserAfter Marvel’s much-discussed no-show at last month’s Comic-Con, the hype machine has been turning fast leading up to this weekend’s Disney D23 Expo at the Anaheim Convention Center. They’ll be pulling out all the stops, right? “Avengers” footage, revealing those two newly-dated mystery projects, surprise appearances and who knows what else. Well, some of that wound up being true, but Marvel’s showing at D23 wasn’t nearly as exciting as the speculation leading up to it.

Really, Marvel? While fans extend the comic giant enough goodwill that the company could murder baby unicorns and get away with it, you have to admit, this is pretty lame.

This weekend the thoroughly serviceable, enjoyable though not quite remarkable "Captain America: The First Avenger" will hit theaters and as usual Marvel will be promoting the next movie in the comic universe with a post-credits scene. But unlike previous films where Samuel L. Jackson or Clark Gregg show up for two seconds broadly winking at the audience, fans are in for a real treat this weekend as a teaser trailer for "The Avengers" will be unveiled and for those of you who managed a peek at the leaked footage, which features pretty much every member of the superhero team, it's a pretty nifty little spot.

What started as a gag by director Jon Favreau on the first "Iron Man" film has become a signature part of all Marvel Studios films: the post-credits scene. During the filming of "Iron Man," Favreau threw in a few Easter eggs to the larger Marvel universe including a short scene after the end credits rolled featuring Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, who shows up to tell Robert Downey Jr.'s Tony Stark that he's putting a team together. This was an exciting tease to fanboys which should have led right into "The Avengers," Marvel's long-planned superhero team-up. Unfortunately this made "Iron Man 2" almost completely redundant, but that film's post-credits stinger introduced an Asgardian hammer touching down in New Mexico which set the stage for "Thor." The post-credits bit on that film showed the villain Loki going after the cosmic cube, again setting the stage for "The Avengers." With one more hero to introduce, next week's "Captain America: The First Avenger," many wondered just what we'll be getting as a treat before we leave the theater and now we know. (And obviously, if you don't want to know any more, stop reading here.)

We can't say we've really watched the CBS psychic police procedural "The Mentalist" but as it heads into its fourth season this fall, it's clear there is an audience for the show and it looks like the cast are beginning to capitalize on that popularity. Lead actor Simon Baker has logged time already in films like "The Killer Inside Me," "Women In Trouble" and upcoming financial crisis drama "Margin Call" and now co-star Amanda Righetti will add a tentpole to her CV.
