Jack Black, for the all the success he's had in films like "The School Of Rock" or the "Kung Fu Panda" movies, is no stranger to flops. "Year One" anybody? How about "Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny"? But it seems one much more recent movie is an effort that the actor views as one of the lowest points of his career on stage or in front of the camera.

No one likes to celebrate flops. No, really. OK, maybe when an arrogant, mouthy producer or star delivers a turd that had it coming, or some awful franchise finally stumbles, but especially in the latter case, when does that ever happen?

You put out one remake of an '80s movie during a slow weekend, and it’s not a big deal. You put out remakes of two niche early '80s hits on the same weekend, and audiences get the message. This weekend was the clearest example yet of studios offering reheated product, one of which was remains in public memory as a punch line, the other as a cult classic that was ignored by critics and audiences upon its initial release. At least they weren’t expensive.

It is, perhaps, too unkind to call "The Big Year" the perfect film to screen on a trans-oceanic plane flight whose compliment of passengers is made up solely of AARP Members. But we can think of no words of praise less slight and no words of condemnation more heated, so there it is. Inspired roughly by Mark Obmascik's non-fiction book of the same name, three fictional characters are our guides through the biggest event in American birdwatching, the annual competition to see the most North American birds in a year.

We have to admit, we kind of totally forgot this movie even existed, but with the release date now six weeks out, Fox decided to actually start promoting the upcoming comedy "The Big Year." Judging by the first trailer, we probably would've been fine leaving this one to the recesses of our memory.

Plus First Look Photos Of Daniel Radcliffe In 'The Woman In Black' & 'The Big Year' With Owen Wilson & Jack BlackWhile the adult drama is seemingly endangered thanks to the hegemony of brand-based franchises and tentpoles there are still a few directors managing to convince the studio system to work within these limits. Sure, you can probably count them on one hand, but Jason Reitman, the filmmaker behind "Up In The Air," and "Juno" is one of these directors. It probably helps that these budgets aren't extraneous, but we'll take what we can get. So here's a first look at one of The Playlist's most anticipated films of 2011, "Young Adult" starring Charlie Theron wearing a Hello Kitty T-Shirt, hip shades and carrying a little toy pooch accessory. Being released by Paramount on December 9th in limited release, likely vying for Oscar contention, the film reteams Reitman with "Juno" screenwriter Diablo Cody.
