While Cannes Film Festival prognosticators continue to ponder if one or both of Terrence Malick's two films in post-production -- "The Voyage Of Time" and his still untitled romance, aka "The Burial" -- will make it to the Croisette, all we can do is keep pulling together the scraps of info, while we wait for the movies to appear.

While "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" might not have been the box office smash the studio were hoping for (it turns out there's a reason people don't open three-hour-long R-rated thrillers the week before Christmas), there's one person who's done pretty well out of the whole thing: Rooney Mara. Only eighteen months ago, the actress was best known as the much-derided lead of the "Nightmare On Elm Street" remake, and for being twelfth-billed in "Youth In Revolt." But then she took a small role in David Fincher's "The Social Network," a performance that saw her win the much sought-after part of Lisbeth Salander in the director's next film, and if anyone's come out smelling of roses, it's her.

It's kind of remarkable to think that, almost a year ago, Jessica Chastain was barely known. Sure, geekier film folks (like us) might have known us as her as the girl who Terrence Malick had cast in "The Tree of Life"...

Maintaining a career after breaking through as a Bond girl is not the easiest thing in the world. Just ask Izabella Scorupco or Denise Richards. If you can find them. But the current batch seem to be doing alright so far. Rosamund Pike has gone from strength to strength since "Die Another Day," and both Eva Green and Gemma Arterton have worked steadily in interesting films since rolling in the hay with 007. But arguably the one with the most intriguing slate of projects ahead of her is Olga Kurylenko, who played female lead Camille Montes in last Bond entry "Quantum of Solace."

That's His Next Film, Not His Next Next Film, His Next Next Next Film Or His Next Next Next Next FilmWhat in the name of grace and nature has gotten into Terrence Malick recently? With the announcement yesterday of two new projects both starring Christian Bale and Cate Blanchett -- "Lawless," also with Ryan Gosling and Rooney Mara, and "Knight of Cups" with Isabel Lucas -- it means that the reclusive auteur looks likely to make more films in the space of this decade than he did in the previous 35 put together. Of course, he unveiled "The Tree of Life" this year, and has the IMAX documentary "Voyage of Time" reportedly still in the works, not to mention his rumored involvement with "Green Lantern 2." Okay, that we just made up.

This is a story we hemmed and hawed on doing mostly because it seems like a sucker punch to gut the details on Terrence Malick's next film, "The Burial." And while the info is now making the rounds, for all the extensive plotting revealed, Malick has never been one to stick directly to a script, and the weightier thematic issues and the tone and tenor of the finished work often emerges throughout the editing process. So for everything that is mentioned here, how the final product is shaped probably isn't best described by simple plot beats. But needless to say, if you don't want to know anything about the film stop reading here. Seriously.
