Say what you like about Robert Redford's directorial efforts (like, for instance, that "Quiz Show" aside, they very closely replicate the experience of watching paint dry. Underwater), but he knows how to stack a film with a cast of ringers. Even a film as dull as his recent "The Conspirator" was able to attract names like James McAvoy, Robin Wright, Kevin Kline, Tom Wilkinson and many more, mainly drawn by the opportunity to work with one of the all-time great movie stars.

Stephen Root rules. Probably best known as Milton Waddams in "Office Space" the character actor moves effortlessly from comedy to drama to horror and is constantly working on a new project. Hell, just look at the wide variety of films he's had this year alone: "Red State," "Cedar Rapids," "Everything Must Go," voicing a part in "Rango," popping up in "Justified" and he's got "J. Edgar" around the corner. Not bad. He was also in Robert Redford's dusty musty drama "The Conspirator" earlier this year and he's impressed the Sundance veteran enough that he wants to work with him again.

Looks like Robert Redford's "The Company You Keep" is beginning to take shape with the veteran actor-director now adding the experienced trio of Susan Sarandon, Julie Christie and Richard Jenkins to a cast that already features Shia LaBeouf, Nick Nolte and rising star Brit Marling.

If you're an actor, and you're finding it hard to find the kind of roles you'd really like, the best thing you can do is get behind a typewriter and write them yourself. The latest to follow in the steps of, say, Jon Favreau and Edward Burns is Brit Marling, whose credits were relatively few before her acclaimed pair of films, "Another Earth" and "The Sound Of My Voice," both of which she co-wrote, hit Sundance at the start of the year, instantly making her one of the fastest-rising stars around.

Allegedly Turned Down Steven Soderbergh's 'Magic Mike' To Focus On 'The East'There is no mistaking it -- Brit Marling is having a moment. Arriving at Sundance earlier this year with two films, “Another Earth” and “Sound Of Your Voice,” performing triple duties on each film -- acting, writing and producing -- she soon saw major buzz surround both works, with Fox Searchlight picking up rights for the pair, and the former flick earning two prizes for director Mike Cahill. Certainly not a bad way to make your entrance into Hollywood and like Noomi Rapace and Jennifer Lawrence in 2010, this year Marling seems to be the new actress that everyone wants to have a piece of. It looks like everyone is back from summer vacation and with numerous films gearing up to start shooting this fall, it seems Marling's agent has been fielding several calls.

"The Conspirator" may have been a little dull, despite an excellent cast, but as Robert Redford was the man behind the sublime "Quiz Show," we're always going to pay attention when the star goes behind the camera, and his latest project, "The Company You Keep," sounds particularly interesting: an adaptation of a well regarded novel by Neil Gordon, with a script by "The Limey" writer Lem Dobbs, the film will see Redford play an ex-Weather Underground militant who's exposed by a young journalist (Shia LaBoeuf), and forced to go on the run. And now, Redford's looks to have landed one of his contemporaries for a role in the project, one who'll likely bring a little crazy on board.

"...I’ve been running for a team of people for a long time and I don’t take any of it back...I’ve learned a great deal about a certain type of filmmaking. But I have ambitions toward another type of filmmaking that I haven’t been allowed to engage in yet,” Shia LaBeouf recently said in the press run up to "Tranformers: Dark Of The Moon" and it looks like he's firmly leaving tentpole movies behind for now. Earlier this spring, he was one of the boys hanging in John Hillcoat's prohibition-era drama "The Wettest County" and now LaBeouf is ready to star and be directed by one of Hollywood's great legends.
