Yeah, yeah we know... This year's Oscars are still about a month away, but we're already starting to see the next awards season shape up. Films like "Captain Phillips" and "Saving Mr. Banks" -- both starring Tom Hanks, mind you -- have already staked out fall dates, and now another big contender is swinging onto the playing field.

While Ridley Scott puts the production of "The Counselor" on hold in the wake of his brother Tony Scott's death, when cameras start rolling again we can look for another face in those set pics: Goran Visnjic. With the "E.R." actor booking a role on the upcoming ABC drama "Red Widow," it has also been revealed he's joined Ridley Scott film as well, although his role hasn't been disclosed. Penned by Cormac McCarthy, the story follows a prosecutor who dabbles in dealing drugs to earn a quick buck and gets in way over his head. Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Rosie Perez, Dean Norris and John Leguizamo co-star in the film that currently hasn't been slated with a release date.

Today, Hollywood continues to reel from the tragic news that director Tony Scott took his own life over the weekend. While he shared collaborations with many of Hollywood's brightest talents and biggest stars, none were as close, creative or deeply meaningful as those with this brother Ridley Scott. The pair put their names behind Scott Free, a production shingle responsible for dozens of TV shows and films, allowing the brothers to develop and manage projects they were both passionate about. Tony's absence is undoubtedly a great loss, and understandably, Ridley is taking some time to grieve.

Director Jose Padilha has been spending the past few months filling out his cast for his upcoming "RoboCop" remake, which, if you're disgusted by the idea of such a thing, we're sorry to say is still happening. If you're not bothered at the idea of yet another remake of a Paul Verhoeven sci-fi classic (what's next? A "Starship Troopers" remake? Oh, wait, that's happening too), then you'll probably be thrilled to learn that the role of Liz Kline will be filled by Jennifer Ehle. Who is Liz Kline? Actually, we don't know.

Well, whaddya know? It looks like cameras have already started rolling on Ridley Scott's "The Counselor." While casting is still ongoing for the film (and with Michael Fassbender currently busy shooting "Twelve Years A Slave") it seems the director is squeezing in time to shoot whenever there is space in the calendars of his extensive cast, and Brad Pitt is currently knocking out his scenes over in London (with the Olympics likely serving as good cover for the paparazzi-stalked actor).

Granted, we don't keep up with Rosie Perez, but that doesn't mean she hasn't been keeping busy. While the last time this writer saw her was in "Pineapple Express," just over a year ago, a fellow Playlist-er caught her awesomely praising (and then leaving) a screening of "The Fighter." You go Rosie Perez....anyway, she's landed a gig in what will be her first real substantial drama in quite some time (sorry, the feel goodery of the upcoming "Won't Back Down" doesn't count).

While Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul have deservedly earned the lions share of accolades for AMC's fierce "Breaking Bad," the supporting players haven't gotten as much shine, despite being just as solid. And one of those rock solid folks has been Dean Norris aka Hank, Walter White's brother-in-law, and one time rock collecting enthusiast, who is dead set on tracking down Heisenberg. But with the show currently on a hiatus before it shoots the last eight episodes, Norris just bagged a role alongside some heavyweights in Ridley Scott's next film in "The Counselor."

If you're only going to shoot a couple of movies in one year, making them with Ridley Scott and Pedro Almodovar is not a bad way to go, and that seems to be the game plan for Penelope Cruz.

“The Counselor,” the first original screenplay by Cormac McCarthy, is set to begin shooting in just a few short weeks with Ridley Scott at the helm. The film follows the titular character (Michael Fassbender) who ventures into the world of drug dealing with deadly consequences, and it features a stellar cast including Javier Bardem, Cameron Diaz and Brad Pitt. In a conversation with Empire at Cannes, Pitt dished on his excitement about the project, saying, “I’ve read every word [McCarthy’s] published and most of them more than once. So this was a chance to do something of his and also work with Ridley again.”
