Casting a movie can be difficult, especially when trying to attract top talent to a film when they undoubtedly have other offers, or trying to pick someone right for a role when the studio wants a big name. But not if you're Ridley Scott and you're working with a script by Cormac McCarthy. Big names have been breaking down the door to join "The Counselor," and that run continues today.

Yesterday the Hollywood Reporter released its cover story on Jeremy Renner. Three years ago the now-41 year old actor had toiled away in Hollywood obscurity, until he bagged his first Academy Award nomination for “The Hurt Locker” and at a time when barely anyone knew who he was.

Though he's cropped up in reports about the film, most expected that the usually selective, tough to schedule Brad Pitt wouldn't be taking a role in Ridley Scott's "The Counselor." But it seems the superstar is still taking a hard look, and may be reteaming with the man who gave him his breakout turn in "Thelma & Louise."

Ever since its surprise announcement a month or so back, "The Counselor," the first script written directly for the screen by Pulitzer Prize-winner Cormac McCarthy, author of "No Country For Old Men" and "The Road," has been one of the hottest projects in Hollywood. Swiftly snapped up by the producers of "The Road," the film soon had Ridley Scott attached to direct, and man-of-the-moment Michael Fassbender locked into the lead role, an attorney who gets way over their head in the drugs trade.

Accusations of ageism fly around Hollywood all the time, but they seemed to be fairly definitively refuted in recent weeks when a 78-year-old became the hottest screenwriter in town after his film sold, attracted Ridley Scott and Michael Fassbender, and was fast-tracked into production this May. Of course, it helps if that 78-year-old is Cormac McCarthy, the Pulitzer prize-winning author of "Blood Meridian," "All The Pretty Horses," "The Road" and the source material for Best Picture winner "No Country For Old Men." But it's still a rare achievement, to get a film from the page to a greenlight, with A-list talent attached, in only a matter of days.
