It's been a weird, wooly day for "The Dark Knight Rises." The official website launched, a first look at Tom Hardy as Bane soon followed and now the day will close out with two pretty fucking random dudes joining the cast.

Here's the thing about marketing/viral campaigns. The first time around, it's kind of fun to play along with unlocking every morsel and clue of info about a movie. Anytime after that, it's pretty fucking boring. For example, "Super 8" has had a pretty extensive viral campaign running behind it for a while now but except for a few diehard fans, has anyone been paying attention? We kind of tuned in briefly but then realized we had other things to do with our day then spend time figuring out what each little crumb of info might mean.

It was only a matter of time before Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Marion Cotillard were confirmed for Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises," but the real surprise here is that the roles are quite different than what had been rumored for the past couple of months.

Who, who and who? Yeah, ordinarily we probably wouldn't give this kind of minor casting much notice but when it comes to "The Dark Knight Rises" we'll take whatever we can get since Christopher Nolan and co. will be keeping details on a short leash.

Well, this is some pretty good karma. Josh Pence had perhaps the most unenviable role of any actor last year. He starred in David Fincher's "The Social Network" but you didn't see him. Why? He was the guy who had his head digitally replaced by Armie Hammer who played both Winklevoss twins. Bummer. But he was a good sport about it all and it looks like he's about to get some face time (ha!) in one of the biggest movies of 2012.

As you might recall, the plot for "Inception" leaked almost a whole year before it hit theaters. And while most sites keep that on the down low, as much for their own benefit of not spoiling the movie for themselves as anything else, Christopher Nolan is doing his best this time around to make sure that nonsense doesn't happen again.

Update: So, was Variety wrong? Entertainment Weekly reports that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will not play Alberto Falcone (a.k.a. the Holiday Killer). Which site do you believe? Probably time to let more casting speculation begin.
