Listen, I know what you expect from me. After last week's showing, you're expecting me to wax poetic about Daniel Craig and Harrison Ford and Ryan Gosling and all the man beauty at the box office. Nope. What Chris Evans and I have is special and beautiful and I will not sully it with that cad, Ryan. I will leave that salivating to the male portion of the Playlist, as Mr. Gosling is the designated man crush. I don't need to build him up anymore than the rest of these dudes have. He's a great actor with a wonderful sense of personal style. THE END. All I will say about Mr. Craig is that I hope his bum is insured by Lloyd's of London for as much as J. Lo's booty. Anyway! In theaters this week! The improbably premised "Cowboys & Aliens"! Rom-com for men, "Crazy, Stupid Love"! "The Smurfs".... You know it's not a week without a dumb movie for children! Let's do it to it.

There is no conventional wisdom that states that you get the biopic you deserve. Indeed, terrible movies have been made from compelling public figures, while other, less respectable folks have been unfortunately immortalized by the craft behind their cinematic stories. Ideally, the film isn’t a validation or condemnation of the person, but unfortunately, history favors public opinion over nuance. Hell, there are some people who think "Forrest Gump" was a real person.

On the one hand, "The Devil's Double" -- a biopic of Saddam Hussein‘s psychotic son Uday and of his body double, with Dominic Cooper playing both roles -- sounds like it could be some compelling viewing, at least based on the one actor, dual roles casting. On the other hand, it's directed by Lee Tamahori, the guy behind “Die Another Day” and “xXx2: The State of The Union” so it could very well be a trainwreck. But we'll be honest, with the blinged out poster and now this trailer, we're pretty curious.

Because we can't be everywhere at once, every film festival leads to at least one film that, despite the buzz, never quite gets above our radar. For example, we missed Mike Mills' "Beginners" at Toronto last year, but when we finally caught up with it in SXSW, it turned out to be one of our favorites of the year so far. And, while we took a good stab at Sundance this year, somehow, the presence of "The Devil's Double" didn't quite register -- or at least it did, but the prospect of a biopic of Saddam Hussein's psychotic son Uday, and of his body double, with "Mamma Mia" star Dominic Cooper playing both roles, and direction from "Die Another Day" and "xXx2: The State of The Union" helmer Lee Tamahori may not have particularly grabbed us.
