With "The Bourne Legacy" and "The Expendables 2" landing over the last couple of weekends, we're pretty much at the tail end of the tentpole-laden summer movie season. The rest of the month finds classic late-August programmers like "Premium Rush," "The Apparition" and "The Possession" hitting theaters before attention will be turned to the fall festival season with Venice, Telluride, TIFF, and NYFF all on the way.

Disney sure picked the right time to get in on that Marvel action. After the first Marvel films proved to be decent-sized hits, the studio came in like a shark, swiping the studio up for a few billion, expecting similar results. Yet, not only has “The Avengers” handily outdrawn every other superhero film thus far, but it's number one at the domestic box-office for a third weekend running, with a $55 million haul, and is actually now Disney’s highest grossing film of all time. Take that, “Flubber”!

In Theaters: 'The Dictator' Overruns The 'Polisse,' So That 'Battleship' And 'What To Expect' May Cause Angry 'Hysteria' Among 'The Samaritan's

Dictators, hitmen, and navy officers – oh my! It’s a big weekend for the dudes, the professional advantages mentioned above notwithstanding, and we can expect screens clogged with manly men doing male things. Even the invention of a sex toy (by a man, duh) and male grooming get sweet turns in the theaters. If only the powerful sight of pregnant women was enough to combat the male-dominated market. Ah well, perhaps another weekend. Let’s jump into the testosterone-fueled fray, shall we?

"The Dictator" opens in just a couple of days, and while Paramount had initially moved the film to get out of the way of "Dark Shadows," it was actually "The Avengers" they would end up avoiding, as the superhero movie continued smashing box office records in week two. But if you already saw the comic book movie, then we urge you to see Sacha Baron Cohen's latest...why? Because it's pretty fucking funny.

While it would be unfair to call it the worst kept secret in the movie universe, it's something that most movie bloggers know -- and something a few of them have already reported on, though there's been little concrete information thus far. A teaser trailer for "Anchorman 2" will appear in front of Sacha Baron Cohen's upcoming comedy "The Dictator," which opens next Wednesday, May 16th. Confirmed? Nope. But feel free to bet the farm on Odin's Raven. You can have the keys to our blog if it doesn't happen (cool, right guys?).

Review: Sacha Baron Cohen's 'The Dictator' Rules With Comic Authority & Big Laughs

At a first glance, Sacha Baron Cohen's "The Dictator" almost seems too easy. Another accent, another elaborate costume, more manscaping and this time with the softball target of despotic leaders -- it almost seemed as if the comic actor was pouring an ocean of fish into a tiny thimble and then pointing a comedy bazooka at it. And for the first fifteen to twenty minutes, "The Dictator" is kind of that obvious, and as a result, a bit uneven. But once the movie really finds its groove, Cohen's latest character creation easily stands up with his best work. Frequently laugh out loud funny, button pushing, and the rare comedy that actually gets more enjoyable as it goes on, "The Dictator" delivers the goods. All hail Admiral General Aladeen!

Jacknuhn! The Supreme Leader, All Triumphant General and Chief Opthamologist of People's Republic of Wadiya's Admiral General Shabazz Aladeen (Sacha Baron Cohen) arrived on U.S. shores this weekend to drop by Weekend Update on "Saturday Night Live" with host Seth Meyers to discuss his upcoming film, "The Dictator" (a follow-up to his earlier films like "Planet Of The Rapes" and "Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn's Legs").

Being no stranger to the MTV Movie Awards, Sacha Baron Cohen has dropped a promo for this year’s show as General Aladeen from “The Dictator,” reading off the list of nominees as his busty female body guards watch over him. Cohen was memorably entangled with Eminem during the show a couple of years ago in the run up to “Bruno,” and while this the year ceremonies will be happening after the film is in theaters, perhaps we'll stll be treated to an appearance by the great leader of Wadiya. Or, we'll suffer the consequences.

Believe it or not, The Playlist likes nothing more than a dumb, hilarious movie. And Sacha Baron Cohen is one of the best at delivering big laughs from big broad characters, while also having some smarts riding beneath the surface. And while it didn't make our top ten list of summer blockbusters we're looking forward to, there was certainly some debate around the water cooler as a few us are definitely on board for Cohen's next, "The Dictator."
