Nearing sixty years old, and having announced that he's retiring from action movies, it looks like Jackie Chan is ready to tell everyone how he really feels. While he's earning the wrong kind of headlines for declaring that Hong Kong is "a city of protest marches" and that "we should have rules dictating what [issues people] can march for, and which they can't," flying slightly below that are his thoughts on his own filmography. Particularly when it comes to his work in Hollywood.

Box Office: 'The Expendables 2' Wins Weak Weekend, Conservative Doc '2016: Obama's America' Surprises

There was a brief moment where August still seemed viable for blockbuster pictures. Generally, the month has been viewed as the weak sister of the hot season, usually a dumping ground for once-promising projects that fell by the wayside, gathering little attention from students preparing to return to school. A string of August hits over the last decade changed that, but here we are, back to the dog days. Last summer was plagued by low attendance for films like "30 Minutes or Less," "Conan the Barbarian" and "Fright Night," and if this weekend is anything to go by, with "The Expendables 2" handily defeating an onslaught of unattractive new product, we're in for even lower grosses. In fact, it's the first weekend in a decade where no new film opened to over $7 million. Ouch.

The release of "The Expendables 2" felt like a celebration. Not only were the trailers boasting the return of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis in legit action roles, but it was also promising the addition of Jean Claude Van Damme and Chuck Norris to the franchise. Along with the release and buzz over two new trailers featuring Schwarzenegger ("The Last Stand") and Sylvester Stallone ("Bullet to the Head"), most saw this as a sign that b-movie action was back to the big time at the box office. Of course, the question as to whether this is star power or "star" power (with an ironic eyebrow raised) may have been answered, with the highly touted actioner finishing at $28.8 million, 17% below the first film's $35 million opening.

Hi there! It’s a regular Halloween in August as this weekend’s new releases do much to call back the spirits of the past. These films continue franchises, hearken familiar genre themes, adapt previously published material, or just feature ghosts in plain sight. Less spooky than mirthful, these movies are more about paying due (or getting paid) than paying off a debt with blood and gore. Still, a scare or two may not be far away. Get ready…

Review: Jean-Claude Van Damme Shines In The Moronically Irresistible Entertainment Of ‘Expendables 2’

“The Expendables 2” is one of the very few films that gets better as it gets dumber. Serviceably directed, horribly written and barely acted at all except for a standout performance by (of all people) Jean-Claude Van Damme, it mostly delivers in the way that the original failed to, which is by enabling action stars to charm their way through an incredibly hackneyed and conventional storyline. Nevertheless an irresistibly fun alternative to the so-called grown-up fare that has attempted to replace the escapism of '80s and ‘90s blockbusters, “The Expendables 2” offers a welcome roundup of action stars who simultaneously – and satisfyingly – celebrate and send up their former glories.

Well, Comic-Con is done for another year. The San Diego Conference Center is currently getting a thorough hosing down, hungover cos-players have done their awkward walks of shame, and film press are returning to their various corners of the world longing, like ourselves, to watch and write about something difficult, European and subtitled.

There's going to be two different kinds of heroism hitting the big screen in the coming weeks. In "The Dark Knight Rises" we'll see a billionaire by day, superhero by night, broken mentally and physically, trying to restore order to Gotham that has been overrun by Bane and his cronies. Meanwhile, in "The Expendables 2," we'll see a bunch of really old guys -- some of whom should be retired -- defy age and science by running around a foreign country and blowing shit up. 60 is the new 30. Or something.

There's no such thing as Comic-Con without Sylvester Stallone and "The Expendables," right? So naturally, Lionsgate will be rolling out footage from "The Expendables 2" in San Diego this week -- on Thursday to be precise. Co-starring a bunch of olds like Dolph Lundgren, Jean Claude Van Damme, Chuck Norris, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Bruce Willis (three of whom will be eligible for social security by the time the picture hits) and less geriatric action stars like Jason Statham, Jet Li, Yu Nan, Terry Crews, Randy Couture and Liam Hemsworth, on the eve of SDCC, Lionsgate has released an old-school poster that looks as if it was designed by the same dude who conceived of the artwork for the 1986 Stallone actioner "Cobra." That is to say it's vintage-y and '80s; the era when action heroes actually mattered.

The old men of summer are back, having rubbed in the gallons of Ben-Gay and endured the hernias for "The Expendables 2," the most expendable movie since the last one. And now a new clip has come along to highlight just how potentially terrible this will be.
