Currently keeping busy with a fine performance on HBO’s “The Newsroom,” even when the show around him perhaps isn’t so good, actor Jeff Daniels’ commitments to the Aaron Sorkin show obviously means that his film opportunities will be somewhat slimmer in the near future. The star will appear next in Rian Johnson’s “Looper,” but after that talk will instead turn to one of the numerous projects waiting for Daniels to take a break from the show. One that keeps cropping up is the long-discussed sequel to “Dumb and Dumber,” and only a few months after Jim Carrey suggested that the film was dead, Daniels recently expressed the opposite.

In the works for a while now, and most recently kicking back to life last summer when it was reported that Jim Carrey was eyeballing a sequel to "Dumb & Dumber" as a potential next project, it looks like everything is coalescing for the return of Harry and Lloyd.

As go the seasons, so goes "The Three Stooges." The Farrelly Brothers' re-awakening of the brand name has been through various permutations, gliding from Columbia to Warner Bros., to the ashes of MGM and finally, Fox. Every leading man under the sun has been rumored to play the eponymous goofballs, from the likes of Sean Penn and Jim Carrey to Larry David and Justin Timberlake and everybody in between. Finally, the release dates -- "The Three Stooges" originally earmarked dates in 2009 and 2011. Now, next April, the Stooges are back.

You know how there was once talk of a "Watchmen" movie with names like Tom Cruise, Denzel Washington, Hilary Swank and John Cusack, and then we ended up with a "Watchmen" movie with Matthew Goode, Billy Crudup, Malin Akerman and Patrick Wilson? The Farrelly Brothers' new version of "The Three Stooges" seems to have undergone a similar downsizing. Initially announced with A-listers Sean Penn, Benicio Del Toro and Jim Carrey attached (with names like Russell Crowe also linked at various stages), the film is finally happening, but with a cast mostly made up of supporting players from mid-level sitcoms.

There's been a lot of movement surrounding the Farrelly Brothers' remake of "The Three Stooges," starting last year when the project moved from MGM to Fox, getting a fresh cast (Sean Penn, Jim Carrey and Benicio Del Toro were attached in the long-gestating earlier incarnation). Just last month, Johnny Knoxville was supposed to have Moe nailed down, but that turned out to be just a rumor. But the first cast member has now been locked down. EW reports that Will Sasso has officially been cast as Curly (recent reports pegged him as Moe).

Please Pick Somebody AlreadyThe casting rumors for "The Three Stooges" continues and we just wish these knuckleheads would pick someone already. First, Johnny Knoxville was said to be signing on as Moe, then he wasn't and now another name is being tipped as a favorite for the part.

With the April start date for the Farrelly Brothers' "The Three Stooges" getting closer and closer we presume some kind of casting news should be coming down any day now. But wait, wasn't it just announced that Johnny Knoxville set to play Moe? Turns out it was wrong.

With "Hall Pass" opening this weekend and getting bested by the three-week-old cartoon "Gnomeo And Juliet" it's further proof that the Farrelly Brothers are no longer the zeitgeist-capturing, filthy-minded comedy directors they once were. For their next project, "The Three Stooges," the duo are taking on the well-established comedy icons and bringing them to the big screen in what should (hopefully) be a change of pace. However, percolating in the background is a sequel to the film that help put the directors on the map over a decade ago.

Why Armie Hammer Was Cut From The Film And Other Revelations From The Filmmakers, Owen Wilson & Jason Sudeikis "Hall Pass," the upcoming comedy from Peter and Bobby Farrelly ("There's Something About Mary," "Kingpin," "Dumb And Dumber"), sees Owen Wilson and Jason Sudeikis as two friends given a week-long hall pass from their wives (played by Jenna Fischer and Christina Applegate). They have one week off from marriage and thus the freedom to chase the girls they constantly ogle and lust after. If anything, this is a movie for those that have, in a way, been growing up with the Farrellys: with a mix of the outrageous humor they're known for, but a grasp for some more heartfelt moments as well. Sudeikis, in particular, makes a mark as the off-the-wall best buddy.
