Prophet or pariah? That's the question that still surrounds Julian Assange, who even holed up in an Ecuadorian embassy in London, continues to make waves. It was actually two years ago when he warned iPhone, Blackberry and Gmail users about widespread surveillance—well in advance of Edward Snowden's NSA leaks—and this week, Time reporter Michael Grunwald landed in hot water for tweeting: "I can't wait to write a defense of the drone strike that takes out Julian Assange." There are vested interests on both sides who want a piece of Assange, and so does Hollywood.

Journalist or traitor? Whistleblower or security threat? You might think we're talking about Edward Snowden, but before him was Julian Assange, who may not have been the first activist to shake up governments around the world, but certainly the one with the biggest influence in our times. And now his tale is getting told (whether he likes it or not).

Now that Cannes is underway, we're starting the nine-month tick towards awards season -- with the Coens' "Inside Llewyn Davis" already looking like a Best Picture potential, if the Cannes reviews are anything to go by. And DreamWorks is celebrating the gearing up of the Oscar-hunting machinery by shuffling around a couple of their release dates.

While “Lincoln” hovers in DreamWorks' awards season spotlight mainly for Daniel Day Lewis' towering performance, the studio is wisely also glancing ahead to its other doppelganger drama, WikiLeaks biopic “The Fifth Estate,” starring Benedict Cumberbatch as Julian Assange. They've certainly put in a vote of confidence with a locked winter 2013 release date, but one party remain less than thrilled simply on the entire prospect: the famed whistleblower himself.

We're still over a month away from the 2013 Oscars, but consider the 2014 season open, courtesy of DreamWorks. The company (who are leading the field with "Lincoln" this year) have been prepping their WikiLeaks movie, directed by "Gods and Monsters" and "Twilight: Breaking Dawn" helmer Bill Condon, for some time, but it was slightly unclear when it would be hitting theaters. But with filming now underway, they've put their cards on the table, revealing a title, an awards-season release date, and an impressive supporting cast.
