10 Things We Learned From The 2014 Golden Globes
If you're a salesperson of aspirin, raw eggs or hair-of-the-dog booze in Hollywood, today is a good day for you: it's the morning after the Golden Globes, otherwise known as the single most hungover day in the Hollywood calendar. The night that truly kicks off the two-month-long season of awards ceremonies, all leading up to the Oscars at the start of March, its reputation is as one that not many take seriously, but everyone treats as a bit of a party, with some gloriously decadent shenanigans taking place over the years.

American Hustle
Well, that's a wrap. "12 Years a Slave" won Best Drama, but "American Hustle" took three of the top prizes including Best Comedy/Musical, Best Actress Comedy/Musical and Best Supporting Actress. Probably the biggest surprise of the night, though not a shock if you've been reading the tea leaves of late, Matthew McConaughey scoring the Best Actor (Drama) prize for "Dallas Buyers Club" over Robert Redford, Chiwetel Ejiofor and that crowded field. More analysis tomorrow and in the meantime, check out to see how we did with our Globes predictions.

Oscars: Who's Voting For What, Plus Golden Globe Predictions
We're at T-minus 6 days before the announcement of Oscar nominations, and various prognosticators are busy trying to get their final ducks in a row, reading tea leaves and chicken intestine (or whatever) to try and get a sense of how one of the most fiercely competitive awards season in memory is going to play out in the next phase. The DGA nominations this week brought few surprises, and the Golden Globes on Sunday will be too late to affect anything (Oscar voting has closed, and counting is underway), so now it's just a question of waiting and second-guessing yourself.

The Best Quotes of 2013
2013, we’re not quite done with you yet. To close off our coverage of the year gone by, we wanted to hand over the mic to the actors, directors and other film professionals who made waves, headlines, faux pas, announcements, pronouncements or funny gags throughout the year. And we’re changing up the format this time out, scouring the whole internet and not just our own archives for these little nuggets, mainly because we’re fairly sure you’ve all avidly consumed, and committed to memory every word of each of the 200-odd interviews we ran in 2013, and we’d be preaching to the choir.

Oscars: How Did The Golden Globe And SAG Nominations Effect The Acting Races?
Given that we looked at some of the acting categories right at the start of the season, a lot's changed since then. Many of the initial predictions were on the money, of course, but plenty weren't (*cough* Cameron Diaz in "The Counselor"). If anything, though, the races have only got tighter, adding up to one of the toughest and most competitive years we can remember for awards-contending performances. In the last few weeks, things have started to crystalize a little, thanks to the beginning of awards season proper with the critics' groups last week, and the SAG and Golden Globe nominations in the last couple of days. So, with it being so long since we cast a light on these races, we thought we'd go back and see how they're shaping up. Which categories are locking up, and which remain very much in play?

12 Years A Slave
Another morning, another awards nominations announcement: this time, it's the turn of the oft-derided Golden Globes. Will "12 Years A Slave" carry on its success from the SAGs yesterday? Or will the Hollywood Foreign Press Association throw a spanner in the works? Most importantly, which nomination will be the most obvious 'please come to our ceremony, famous person' nod of 2013?

The yearly tradition of watching award shows, and then cringing through the broadcasts as talented people are forced to try and appeal to every person in the world with watered down jokes and lame puns, will at least get a reprieve at the Golden Globes. This past January, BFFs Tina Fey and Amy Poehler were a big hit at the Golden Globes, and so of course, they were courted to return. And that wooing went smashingly as the pair are gonna be regulars, at least for the immediate future.

Will this be the awards season where women are ruling the roost when it comes to handing out trophies? With Ellen Degeneres already slated to hand out the Oscars, it looks like two more funny women are being eyed to work their magic once again.

It's a good morning to be a Los Angeles pharmacist, as, Hollywood is just this moment waking up with their worst hangover of the year. Yep, it's the morning after the Golden Globes, and what the Hollywood Foreign Press Association lacks in respect or prestige, it makes up for in free-flowing booze and raucous partying. And so long as you don't take it too seriously, it can make for pretty entertaining viewing, something proven last night.

Earlier: The oft-repeated maxim is that the Golden Globes do not matter. They do not. However, if you take the polar opposites of the season of critic awards (high-brow, cerebral) and the Globes (extremely populist), you can often (when also considering more significant Guild awards, of course) split the difference and land where the Academy Awards ultimately will.
