It was nearly a month ago when Bradley Cooper pitched himself for the role of Tom Buchanan in Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" but it looks like the director has somebody else in mind entirely.

With Baz Luhrmann being irritatingly cutesy and coy regarding his presumably forthcoming adaptation of "The Great Gatsby" -- all he'll really admit these days is that it's something he's researching -- what we know for certain isn't much, except that Carey Mulligan has been selected to play Daisy in the film. And while Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire have workshopped the project with Luhrmann in the roles of Jay Gatsby and Nick Carraway, and are expected to take on those parts, there is another male lead in the film and Bradley Cooper wants it.

OK, this caginess was cute, but now it's getting sort of irritating. In development for a long time now, everything seemed hunky dory when it was revealed last month that Baz Luhrmann was going to make "The Great Gatsby," and filming was going to start in August in Australia. Well, you can put a big MAYBE stamp on it for now.

Lensing To Begin This August For 17 Weeks After finally settling on the adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby" as his next project, Baz Luhrmann is now set to take the production to his hometown of Sydney, Australia, where lensing in 3D (yes, 3D!) will begin this August.

Aussie Filmmaker Says Decision Should Land This Week About What's NextAustralian visual sensualist and sybarite Baz Luhrmann is a perfectionist. We know this because he generally takes around five years between movies and toiled on an "Alexander The Great" biopic for so excessively that Oliver Stone and a blonde-eyebrow dyed Colin Farrell beat him to the punch in 2004 and the project withered on the vine. He's also only made four films in sixteen years which is basically the same pace as molasses.

To some degree, it's no longer really a story when a big-name director decides to shoot a high-profile picture in 3D -- for the moment, at least, the format's becoming something of a standard for tentpoles, actioners and kids flicks, and it's arguably more significant when someone like Christopher Nolan kicks against the trend. Otherwise, everyone from Martin Scorsese to the guy who directed "Legion" are putting out films in three dimensions, and generally speaking, it's worth no more than a brief mention in a round up of other news. Generally.

But Seriously, What's Wrong With Rebecca Hall?Just to give you an idea of how ridiculous casting roundups can be-- just eleven days ago, news broke that Keira Knightley, Amanda Seyfried, Blake Lively, Abbie Cornish, Michelle Williams and Scarlett Johansson were all in the mix to play Daisy in Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" with the director apparently keen on Natalie Portman. Fast-forward less than two weeks later and now apparently Carey Mulligan, not named in any previous reports, is the frontrunner. Great job, internet.

Amanda Seyfried, Blake Lively & Abbie Cornish Also In ContentionDo these names seem familiar? Yep, its the go-to crop of actresses that seem to circle every major project and you've probably seen them crop up as potential leads for Alfonso Cuaron's "Gravity" and Ridley Scott's "Alien" prequel. So not really much of a surprise then that another high profile project, Baz Luhrmann's "The Great Gatsby" now has these usual contenders being linked to the part of Daisy. If you had asked us to guess what names would be considered, these faces probably would've been right up there.
