The Playlist's Most Anticipated Blockbusters Of The 2013 Summer Season
Ah, summer. That time of year marked by long days, short skirts, and the application of sunscreen. It’s the season where even the most hardened cineaste can put aside their Criterion Collection discs, if only for a moment, and get excited about the jazzy, visual effects-driven blockbusters coming down the pike. The line between “summer” and “any other time of the year,” in terms of movies, keeps getting blurrier and blurrier, with big-budget studio fare like “Oz the Great and Powerful” and “Oblivion” coming out in the spring (we had a Michael Bay movie open in April, for crying out loud – before this it was questionable whether or not he even existed outside of June or July).

This seems to be the week for filmmakers to make assessments on their past work. Yesterday, Michael Bay apologized for "Armageddon," revealing that the studio took the movie out of his hands and if he had his way, he would've completely reshot the final third. And today, Todd Phillips comes out swinging against folks who used "The Hangover Part 2" as a punching bag, criticizing the movie's lack of originality and carbon copying of the first film's template.

Hangover III
Phil, Alan and Stu. We partied with them in Las Vegas, got wasted with them in Thailand, and now it's all coming back home with "The Hangover Part III," a movie in which they want to burn the gambling mecca where they started their journey to the ground. The first trailer set up the pins -- will this one knock 'em down?

Oh, so you didn't think that first trailer for "The Hangover Part III" was so good, huh? Well, Warner Bros. is gonna take another swing at the plate later this week when they drop a newer (and hopefully better) one, and in the lead up to that, they're sharing a bit of marketing material to build the buzz.

" 'The Hangover Part III' is Alan's story," director Todd Phillips said late last year about the plot of the third installment of the 'Hangover' franchise. "He's going through a crisis after the death of his father, [and] the Wolf Pack is all he has." And after surviving Las Vegas and Thailand together, who better to have your back? Well the new trailer for the "fitting end to this three-part opera of mayhem and bad decisions" has arrived to strap in.

So how do you market the Wolf Pack when everybody has already seen a billion pictures of the three sweaty guys from the last two "The Hangover" movies? Well, if you're Warner Bros. you take a page out of "The Muppets" playbook and do a parody poster, and that's what they've done for a new one sheet for "The Hangover Part III."

So, "The Hangover Part III" is coming in about three months....where's the trailer? Or the poster? Or even one of those teaser trailers with no actual footage? Given the movie only started shooting last September, we figure Todd Phillips and co. are racing to the finish line, and the studio must be confident that audiences would probably walk up and buy tickets to this sight unseen. But until we get some kind of glimpse at the movie, here are a couple more stills.

The plot of "The Hangover Part III" has been tightly under wraps since day one. All we've really known is that it wouldn't follow the blackout blueprint of the last two films. "It’s certainly not in the same template that you’ve seen for these movies," director Todd Philips said last year. "The third would be very much a finale and an ending. The most I could say about it...is that it is not following that template but very much a new idea." A vague plot synopsis released earlier this year strongly suggests a road trip scenario, but little else.

While Warner Bros.' "The Hangover Part III" is already shooting and reunites the original cast of Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms, Zach Galifianakis and Justin Bartha along with Ken Jeong, Heather Graham, Jeffrey Tambor, Gillian Vigman, Sasha Barrese, Jamie Chung and badguy John Goodman, apparently one more last-minute addition has been made.
