Jennifer Lawrence, THE HATEFUL EIGHT
Okay, so we know "The Hateful Eight" teaser trailer this weekend will amount to a series of titles, but that's only a minor distraction from the fact that Quentin Tarantino is moving full steam ahead on his western, which is already being advertised for release in 2015. Which means a cast has to be put together, and while many assume the roster of names who participated in the live read in April would be the ensemble for the movie, that might not be the case.

Tarantino, hateful eight
This weekend, "Sin City: A Dame To Kill For" opens, but more importantly, the Robert Rodriguez/Frank Miller neo-noir thriller will be preceded in theaters by a teaser for Quentin Tarantino's forthcoming western, "The Hateful Eight," even though the film hasn't even started shooting yet.

So what's the deal with Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight"? After initially scrapping the project after the script leaked, Tarantino did a complete 180, staging a live read and then last month the first poster dropped, promising a roadshow release of the movie in 2015. And now, the movie, which has yet to have a single frame shot (as far as we know), has a teaser trailer coming. Really.

Tarantino, hateful eight
“Yeah – We’re going to be doing 'The Hateful Eight.' ” is all Quentin Tarantino would say about his developing western when asked about the status of the movie at Comic-Con last weekend. But could plans be much further along that he's letting on? Well, it would certainly appear that way as before a frame has even been shot, the first poster/promo for the movie has arrived, and no it's not a fan made deal either.

Even before a frame has been shot, Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" has had quite the life. Announced last year as his next project, it wasn't long after when an early draft of the script leaked, and he furiously decided to can the movie. But almost just as swiftly, he changed his mind and continued to develop the script, and then earlier this spring, he staged a starry live reading of what he had on the page so far (read our review of the event). And basically, the chatter was that Tarantino was going to ultimately direct "The Hateful Eight," and soon, with Kurt Russell (who participated in the live read) recently suggesting that cameras would roll in early 2015. And while Tarantino didn't give an exact date, he's now confirmed this film is next on his slate.

Death Proof Quentin Tarantino Kurt Russell
You know the story by now: Quentin Tarantino decided that "The Hateful Eight" would be his next film, an early version of the script leaked and then he said he wasn't going to make it at all, and then he was all like, "Fuck it, I'm gonna keep working on the script anyway." Earlier this spring, the director staged a live read with a starry ensemble—Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Amber Tamblyn, Walton Goggins, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, James Parks, Denis Menochet, Dana Gourrier, Zoe Bell, James Remar—which our review noted was a flawed but compelling re-enactment of the first draft script. But with QT making revisions, he may already have his eye on getting this thing made again.

Quentin Tarantino,
While the project is technically shelved, given that Quentin Tarantino has said he's already working on a second draft of "The Hateful Eight," with a third to follow, something tells us this isn't the last we've heard about the western. And as far as unmade projects go, few have received the starry kind of attention this film has, with a live read of the script taking place last month at LACMA, directed by Tarantino himself with a team of famous faces filling in the roles including Samuel L. Jackson, Kurt Russell, Tim Roth, Amber Tamblyn, Walton Goggins, Michael Madsen, Bruce Dern, James Parks, Denis Menochet, Dana Gourrier, Zoe Bell and James Remar. You can read our full recap right here, but if you weren't lucky enough to be there, you can still own a piece of the evening.

For those entering the sold out live read of Quentin Tarantino’s “Hateful Eight” last night expecting a funerary sendoff, they were instead met straight away with a correction: the event, held at Downtown L.A.’s stunningly renovated Ace Hotel, was simply a public work-in-progress.

Pulp Fiction
Finding a role for him in five of his movies to date, the partnership between director Quentin Tarantino and Samuel L. Jackson has been steady over the years, with the actor taking roles both big and small. Whenever QT has called, Jackson has pretty much been there. So who better for Tarantino to ring up than his old pal when it's time to do a live read of his leaked script, "The Hateful Eight"?

Quentin Tarantino,
With his lawsuit against Gawker over their linking to his leaked script "The Hateful Eight" ongoing (a trial date is set for January 27, 2015) and the status of whether or not this will actually be his next movie or not up in the air (he said it was shelved, but later rumors surfaced he was still rewriting it), Quentin Tarantino has decided to roll out the western in its first, legal airing. And you better hope you have a couple hundreds bucks to spare and can make it to Los Angeles.
