For those entering the sold out live read of Quentin Tarantino’s “Hateful Eight” last night expecting a funerary sendoff, they were instead met straight away with a correction: the event, held at Downtown L.A.’s stunningly renovated Ace Hotel, was simply a public work-in-progress.

Pulp Fiction
Finding a role for him in five of his movies to date, the partnership between director Quentin Tarantino and Samuel L. Jackson has been steady over the years, with the actor taking roles both big and small. Whenever QT has called, Jackson has pretty much been there. So who better for Tarantino to ring up than his old pal when it's time to do a live read of his leaked script, "The Hateful Eight"?

Quentin Tarantino,
With his lawsuit against Gawker over their linking to his leaked script "The Hateful Eight" ongoing (a trial date is set for January 27, 2015) and the status of whether or not this will actually be his next movie or not up in the air (he said it was shelved, but later rumors surfaced he was still rewriting it), Quentin Tarantino has decided to roll out the western in its first, legal airing. And you better hope you have a couple hundreds bucks to spare and can make it to Los Angeles.

Quentin Tarantino,
Whether or not he’s actually rewriting it, the controversy surrounding the script leak for “The Hateful Eight”—aka script-leak-gate—rages on and one of Quentin Tarantino’s oldest and staunchest champions has thrown in his two cents on how everything shook out. Meanwhile, the “Django Unchained” director’s lawsuit against Gawker looks to have gotten a bit trickier.

While it seemed like a decent facsimile, some of us were skeptical from second one. Did the soundtrack to Quentin Tarantino’s possible-next movie “The Hateful Eight” leak as purported yesterday? Well, on some random message board—dubious enough as it is—a note featuring handwriting that approximated Tarantino’s own was posted, claiming to be the intended soundtrack for the filmmaker’s western.

For a movie that, for now, isn't getting made, "The Hateful Eight" sure has a lot written about it. But then again, few unmade projects can boast the name of Quentin Tarantino alongside the kind of fiery cancellation this one did, with the writer/director yanking the cord after the script leaked. But has he had a change of heart?

Quentin Tarantino,
“I do like the fact that everyone eventually posts [my scripts], gets it and reviews it on the net. I like the fact that people like my shit, and that they go out of their way to find it and read it," Quentin Tarantino recently told Deadline. And while we're not going to defend Gawker's wanton leaking of the script, we are going to look at the director’s would-be Western “The Hateful Eight” in some broad strokes.

10 Movies Shot, Then Scrapped
Undoubtedly the biggest news story of 2014 so far (unless Apichatpong Weerasethakul replaced J.J. Abrams as director of "Star Wars: Episode VII" in between us writing this and it going live) revolves around Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight." It was announced as being the director's next movie, only for the script to apparently leak, reportedly through one of the potential actor's agents, and that caused Tarantino to announce that he was scrapping the project, at least for the moment. (He's also suing Gawker for helping disseminate the screenplay).

It hasn't been a great 48 hours for Gakwer. Last night, Lena Dunham sharpened her pen and jabbed the site (and it's sister publication Jezebel) on "Girls," but that's nothing compared to what's coming next. After Quentin Tarantino's first draft of "The Hateful Eight" leaked last week, he decided to scrap the project, furious that his screenplay went from being discretely given to six people to being circulated among Hollywood. It wasn't long before the script went beyond the inboxes of insiders, landing online, if you knew were to look for it. Or if you simply clicked over to Gawker.

Quentin Tarantino,
It took just over a week for "The Hateful Eight" to go from Quentin Tarantino's next project to another addition to the growing list of his Lost, Unmade & Possible Future Films. Indeed, the director hasn't ruled out eventually making the movie, after angrily yanking it off the table, following the script getting leaked to Hollywood insiders. And as expected, details about screenplay for "The Hateful Eight" have already emerged, and as always, Tarantino had some big plans for the movie.
