Well, get out the pencil and eraser, because some dates are changing, and the biggest one of them all means you'll have to wait even longer for the finale of Peter Jackson's return to Middle Earth.

Well, movie marketing has reached a whole new level. "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey" isn't even in theaters yet and we're already getting the first look at the last movie in the trilogy that doesn't come out for two years. Hooray? So here we go, take a look at Orlando Bloom reprising Legolas alongside Luke Evans as the Laketown warrior Bard the Bowman.

One problem with turning your two-part fantasy epic into a three-part fantasy epic is that you need to find a new title from somewhere. It's alright when a "Twilight" or a "Hunger Games" decide to split their final installment into two, because they can always go for a "Breaking Dawn Pt. 1 and 2" or "Mockingjay Pt. 1 and 2" type deal, but for "The Hobbit," Peter Jackson had already added two new subtitles to his one-book source material, admittedly ones already associated with the books -- "An Unexpected Journey" and "There And Back Again."

Like it or not, we're getting a third "Hobbit" movie. What started as rumors at Comic-Con became firm negotiations last week, and on Monday, it was announced that the as-yet untitled third film will follow six months or so after the already-scheduled second, "The Hobbit: There And Back Again," in the summer of 2014. Beyond that it's likely to feature additional scenes from the appendices, not much is known about Peter Jackson's actual plans, only that deals are in place for the actors, Warner Bros have given the go-ahead, and additional filming will take place in the near future, likely for two months or so.

As big fans of your work all the way back to "Bad Taste" (in fact, of your work, the only film we're not fond of is "The Lovely Bones," and let's face it, every filmmaker gets a misfire at some point), we wanted to drop you a line after hearing about some recent events. Like many film fans, we're looking forward to your return to Middle Earth, with the first of your two-part adaptation of "The Hobbit," when it comes to theaters in December.

To say the Comic-Con crowd is a little excited about the long-awaited release of the first “The Hobbit” movie this holiday season would be the understatement of the century. Saturday morning’s Hall H line was quite possibly the longest in the convention’s history, which could be attributed partially to other big guns such as “Django Unchained” and “Man of Steel,” but it’s hard to imagine the legendarily loyal Tolkien faithful didn’t play the biggest part in the mob scene.

It's interesting how full circle Peter Jackson has come on "The Hobbit." Originally done with the world of J.R.R. Tolkien after "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and ready to pass the torch on to Guillermo del Toro while staying on as a producer, a series of events found Jackson back in Middle Earth and sitting in the director's chair. And he has thoroughly seized the opportunity. On the technical side, he's bringing 3D and advanced 48 fps technology to the upcoming films, and creatively, he's gone outside the bounds of "The Hobbit," using additional Tolkien writings to help flesh out and give a framework to the story that will span two movies. Or is it three?

With this week’s release of “The Amazing Spider-Man” -- and "The Dark Knight Rises" just around the corner -- we’re at the halfway point of the summer blockbuster season. But there will be big spectacles to come right through to the end of the year, including Peter Jackson’s “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”
