22 Jump Street
With one hit movie under their belts this year with "The Lego Movie," and another likely champ in "22 Jump Street" opening this weekend (review here), Hollywood is Phil Lord and Chris Miller's oyster at the moment. Meaning, that they can basically do whatever they want. So it's no surprise they are getting scripts and projects tossed their way, so it wasn't a total shock when Sony offered them the long-developing "Ghostbusters 3." The story made headlines, but the pair quickly turned it down, but not for the reasons you might think.

If you had told us last year that "The Lego Movie" would not only be a box office success and a critical darling, but also one of the flat out best movies of 2014 so far, we wouldn't have believed. But over $360 million worldwide later, and still going strong, has made us believers. Well that, and the fact that the movie is clever and hilarious, turning multiple genre tropes upside while tossing in a third act twist that could've collapsed the whole thing. A sequel has already been set for 2017, and now has it someone to guide it.

The Lego Movie
The unstoppable “Lego Movie” grossed a whopping $69 million in its opening weekend—second all-time for a February release, behind “The Passion of the Christ”—should hit $100 million worldwide this weekend and looks like it will have long, long legs for repeat viewings.

A movie based on Lego? Sheesh, how crass can Hollywood get? Well, time to put that cynicism away because the reviews are in, and for the most part, "The Lego Movie" defies expectations. Fun, clever and inventive, Phil Lord and Chris Miller's film is receiving great notices, with our own take on the movie calling it, "the first great studio film of 2014, one that fills you with childlike wonder and awe, no matter your age." So, shocker, a sequel is already in the works.
