Anyone who's heard him at a Q&A, been present for one of his lectures, or even listened to a commentary knows one thing about Steven Soderbergh; he's a great conversationalist. Some filmmakers can barely talk about their own work, but a discussion with Soderbergh won't just involve him talking candidly about his own process and films, but also anything that happens to come up.

Steven Soderbergh has tried his hand in many things over the years including a relationship drama, coming-of-age tales, crime capers, retro post-war noir, Spanish-language epics, and most recently, a disaster movie. But one thing he'd never really taken on before? The action movie. There had been some slick set pieces in the "Ocean's Eleven" trilogy, but nothing else that really qualifies. Until now, that is. Friday sees the release of "Haywire," the director's first full-on actioner, and the first of four films set to be released ahead of his hiatus from filmmaking.

After being rumored/offered a handful of projects this year, ranging from "Cannonball Run," "300: Battle Of Artemesia" and "Excalibur" (which wound up falling apart anyway once Warner Bros. moved ahead with "Arthur & Lancelot"), it looks like the WB has found a project for their "Sherlock Holmes" director to tackle next.

Burns have been developing since early 2010. Soderbergh was in meetings with WB brass this evening in Los Angeles and could not come to an agreement over casting and budgets and decided to part ways on the project.

While his film taste is indiscriminate and eclectic, Steven Soderbergh's taste in collaborators tends to be monogamous. Both George Clooney and Matt Damon and the Oscar-winning director have made six pictures together (and Damon has one more collaboration in the works), Michael Douglas and Benico Del Toro have two films a piece with the filmmaker and one new muse is emerging: Channing Tatum.

The wheels continue to turn on "The Man from U.N.C.L.E." over at Warner Bros. with Bradley Cooper offered the role of American spy Napolean Solo and Joel Edgerton in talks for Ilya Kuryakin, it seems things were moving swimmingly along for the project as it had two leads that made both the director and the studio happy but, alas, one has fallen.

We once described rising Australian actor Joel Edgerton as the "thinking man's Sam Worthington" and, while as unfair as that may sound, we're thinking Hollywood is starting to share our views on him as well.

However, Warner Bros. has got the ball rolling, placing a call to somebody on their wishlist.

Plus Our Five Suggestions For Potential Replacements For George Clooney In The FilmWith his virus thriller "Contagion" riding on top of the box office (and causing an epidemic of O.C.D. hand-washing from anyone who's seen it), Steven Soderbergh's about to shoot his next film, the male-stripper drama "Magic Mike." But talk has already turned to his next, next film, "The Man From U.N.C.L.E," the second of three he plans to shoot before taking a sabbatical. That film, slated to go in front of cameras in February, hit something of a roadblock a few weeks back when Soderbergh's regular collaborator George Clooney was forced to drop out of the lead role.
