Thanks to the two recent teaser trailers "The Muppets" looks like a total blast, capturing the vibe that made us giddy for the felt covered co-stars back when we were in short pants. The film features an all star cast (Jason Segel, Amy Adams, Rashida Jones, Chris Cooper with cameos from Emily Blunt, Ricky Gervais, Alan Arkin, Jack Black, Billy Crystal, Zach Galifianakis and more) and will be tuned up by “Flight of the Conchords” star Bret McKenzie. But it wasn't always that way. With My Morning Jacket's new album "Circuital" hitting stores today, frontman Jim James has been doing the press rounds revealing that at one time he was on track write songs for the upcoming movie, but that you can hear some of his efforts on the band's latest long player.

"Green With Envy"? Yep, that's the fake title given the trailer for "The Muppets" but how many other movies are there coming out this year starring Jason Segel, Amy Adams and a bunch of felt covered co-stars? The answer is none.

There are plenty of films coming in the rest of the year that we're excited about. "The Tree of Life," obviously. "Hugo Cabret," "Drive," "The Skin I Live In," "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy" and many, many more. But this writer has to confess that he's almost as excited about a somewhat less highbrow film: Disney's long-in-the-works reawakening of "The Muppets." And frankly, we hope you are too.

That’s right, 2010 is already in our rear view and we’re looking far, far ahead into 2011. If 2010 was the year of audiences rewarding original, smart blockbusters (“Inception”) and punishing glossy, but empty big-budget tentpoles (“The Tourist,” “Tron: Legacy”) the new year will find studios hoping once again that comic franchises and sequels can bring in the big bucks. No less than five comic-book movies are on the way with “Thor,” “Captain America,” “Green Lantern,” “Green Hornet” and “X-Men: First Class” all swinging into theaters, while tried-and-true franchises get sequels with “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” “Transformers 3,” “The Hangover 2” and “Sherlock Holmes 2” among the films looking to bank on previous successes.

Dave Grohl To Cameo, Lead Muppet Won't Have Celebrity Voice Coming off a banner couple of years, where even non-Pixar animations like "Tangled," "How to Train Your Dragon" and "Cloudy with Chance of Meatballs" have turned out to be terrific, it could be argued that it's something of a golden age of family films. And as someone raised on monstrosities like "Richie Rich" and "Space Jam," this writer firmly believes that kids today don't know how lucky they are. But unfortunately, 2011 looks a little grim, with Pixar and DreamWorks both promising fairly uninspired-seeming sequels, and the rest of the year looking pretty barren.

Since pretty much every cameo and celeb appearance has been given away for the upcoming "The Muppet Movie," we're left with telling you won't in the film. Paul Rudd was mentioned in a early batch of names that were said to be appearing in the film but like Jane Lynch before him, it appears word on his participation was a bit premature.

Is Emily Blunt “about to be offered” a role opposite Jason Segel in his gestating romantic comedy “Five-Year Engagement” from director Nicholas Stoller? Possibly and all signs point to yes. Especially since Blunt was just added to the cast of Segel's "The Muppets" also co-written by Stoller. Evidently they're fans as they offered her the role of Jackie Q in “Get Him To The Greek,” but the British thespian had to pass due to obligations for Fox's "Gulliver’s Travels" (which Segel not-so-coincidentally co-starred in).
